The incident of the VanderbiltMarlborough marriage annulment by the action of a foreign and eeclestiastical court presents a situa- . tion that is comic in many of its outward aspects of civilization. I am not trying to be flippant on the subject. I am so serious that I cannot get the truth over unless I borrow the cap and bells. His holiness in Rome has a right to acede to or refuse the request to perform a ceremony for a couple, but he has no right whatever to dispute the terms of the license or question the legitimacy of the State’s authorization.
