GIRLS, WATCH OUT FOR THE MAN WHO WANTS AN EASY JOB
Martha Lee Warns ‘Leona’ of Fiancee Who Scoffs at Hard Workers, Whio Admires Those Who Can Put It Over. By Martha Lee • Have you a “soft” job? And if you haven’t, are you trying to find one? Think twice, because they’re horribly expensive.
If you’ve real Interest In your future, you -can’t afford to hold down a job whose principal recommendation Is that it’s easyIf it’s that, then it’s making you travel ’round in a nice little circle. You won’t know any more next week or next month than you know this, and you’re the decided loser. If you aren’t moving forward, you’re going hack .over the satne ground. If you have no problems to wrestle with, you’re not developing and you’re paying dearly for your leisure, bon’t let anybody give or hold you in a “soft” job. Only a millionaire could afford the luxury. Won’t ‘Work Like a Dog’ Pear Martha Lee: I am going to be married in April. I dearly love the young man. He is sweet and considerate and everything that I oould wish for. but the way ho talks about his work worries me. Sometimes, you would think he would take up bootlegging or something because he always talks as if he admires any one who can “put it over.” ... He ridicules any one who “works like a dog’’ on a job and seems to think they’re foolish. I come from a family with entirely different views and my father would die if he couldn't pay his bills. This also doesn’t worry my young man much. LEONNA. I hate to throw any “blues” into this happy time of your life, but I agree with you that these tendencies of your young man do not augur well for the future. However, a woman can have tremendous Influence upon a man’s view of life and perhaps you can help your fiance to realize that his own efforts are far and away the most Important consideration in his "getting ahead.” Mother Favors His Suit Dear Martha Lee: My father is dead and my mother has remarried. My homelife is a continuous fuss and I have no privacy at all. 1 go with a man who has been married. My mother likes him. but he wants to “pet” all the time, and his kisses are horrid. Now, there is another fellow I like, but my fother favors this first man because he wants to marry me. I hate him at times. I have a fairly good position. Shalt I leave home, or what shall 1 do? X cry every night for hours. BROKEN-HEARTEt) BILLY. Whatever you do, Billy, don’t marry this man for whom you have the strong physical antipathy. You will strike the very dregs of misery if you do. I dislike to advise a girl to leave home. Before you do, see if you can't make your mother realize your feelings about this man and if I were you, I'd refuse to have engagements with him.

They Ail Want to ‘Pet’ Dear Martha Lee: I am 17 years old. pood looking: with golden reddish hair and large blue eyes. I want tbe boys to allow mo a good time, pet a little, smoke and then end it. If they don't want to play square, why I just quit them. Why is it. Miss Lee. that every fellow that I go out with wants to pet? I have never gone out with a fellow who haß not been this way. Even my eousin, who is married, acts that way and my boss, too. What do you think of this? DISGUSTED WITH MEN. Undoubtedly your numerous charms are hard to handle. Seriously, my dear, what can you expect? You give them the encouragement that would *lead them to expect that they are proceeding along the route you wish and expect. You therefore have no right to feel angry at them when they go beyond what you wish to allow. If you really want men to treat you with respect, you’ll have to quit some of your “line.” Her Relatives Misunderstand "A Sad Little Girl” has known a young man for three years. She says he and she coming home from shows have afterwards sat for a time in the machine in front of th house. Her relatives have made unpleasant and she says, untrue insinuations about this. Perhaps, dear, they feel that this habit of visiting in the dark may arouse comments from the neighbors. They are not greatly wrong in this and if I were you, I ask the young man in the house, or finish talking before you arrive there. It’s best to avoid even the appearance of evil, you know. . cLINING SILKS Lining silks for coats and wraps often take their design from Russian architecture. RHINESTONE EMBROIDERY The most formal evening gowns are of velvet, richly embroidered in rhinestones. SILK BRAID Pine silk braid is used in very rich patterns, to decorate sport and day-time gowns of crepe silk.

know how you're going to get along. And you mustn’t bring me any more food, or have my meals sent in. I deserve to eat prison fare for the rest of my life, for having been so se!fish.” “You mustn't give way like this,” Faith admonished her almost sharply. "I’m going to get you the clothes Churchill says you'll have to have. I'll tnake them myself. Churchill will probably like that idea—make capita* of it in the newspapers—that your dresses are home-made, because the Lane family hasn’t any money for ready-made clothes. May I sell your mink coat, dear?” “Os course!” Cherry brightened instantly. “I’d forgotten that I have a marvelous trousseau that cost thousands of dollars! And not a garment worn! Maybe you can find a bride—but I keep forgetting what I am now!” she wailed bitterly. “No bride would wear clothes made for Cherry Lane the murderess!” (Copyright, 1927, NEA Service, Inc.) FORGOTTEN WORDS
By Mrs- Walter Ferguson We are beginning to reap the reward of the idea that duty to others is merely a high sopnding phrase and responsibility but an empty murmur. That we shall go on reaping it is to be expected. Authorities tell us that there Is today an ever increasing number of aged and indigent parents who are neglected by their children. These children believe, of course, that the city, the county or the State should take care of their parents for them. And, too, there is an increasing number of parents who bring babies into the world and turn them over to some sort of a home, feeling no more responsibility for them after a short time than does a cat over year before last year’s kittens. Something has caused this breaking down of our moral fibre. And that something is our doctrine that personal freedom for everybody is a glorious thing. Super-intellectuals go about preaching that all family shackles should be cast aside, and that to start right out hunting for good things and good times for yourself regardless of whom you may hurt is the best ambition in life. Our magazines are filled with the cult of material success. We measure everything by dollars. Personal responsibility to high offices Is getting to be an almost unknown quantity in politics. Our highest Idea of national duty is to reform somebody. We don’t believe very much in any sort of reward for decency in this life and are sold to the theory that we should all grab while the grabging is good. This is a sorry theory upon which to build either lives or nation. For man does owe a responsibility to his parents, his children, his country and his God. He owes it to himself to remain true to the highest aspirations of his own heart. A>l the broadcasting by jazzers will never alter the fact that there is something higher in the soul of man than the mere chasing after his own pleasure. If God is love, then we must speedily regain our ancient belief that to love somebody even better than ourselves is the finest development for the heart and mind of man. DRAPED BLOUSE A draped blouso of dull green crepe de chine is worn over a shirred skirt of black chiffon velvet, to form an unusual afternoon costume. SHAPED PANELS Shaped panels and inserted strips of the material are used to trim a skirt or bodice. SHORT COATS Short coats of velvet In rich colors are being worn with the dressier types of georgette and crepe de chino sport dresses.

Pains That Never Came Here’s glorious news for long-suf-fering womankind! To every woman who periodically has suffered pain. Menstruation need no longer be painful. And It is science that is speaking! Specialists have developed a tiny tablet called midol. It's a simple thing, utterly harmless to a girl of fourteen,, but It brings relief in five to seven minutes. And is effective twelve hours or longer! Midol is not a narcotic. It has no effect whatever on heart or nervous system. It acts directly on those organs affected by menstruation. They function normally, as they should, but the pain is banished. Complete relief—yes, perfect comfort —follows midol. Your druggist has midol fo#Mo- - in a slim aluminum box to tuck in your purse.
