So Light, Small and Comfortable Is the New Rupture Appliance, It Can Not Be Noted Even When the Wearer Is Clad in Tights. Several Dancers, Sufferers From Rupture Due to the Unusual Exertion, Have Been Healed by New Discovery Rupture can be healed. Medical science, endless Investigation, combined with modern invert tiveness has devised a method which actually heals rupture. For ages the healing of rupture, or hernia as it is known medically, has been the aim of countless physicians and surgeons. Investigations into the ills and body afflictions of ancients disclose that in days when history was noted •on tablets of stone, rupture was known and even then priests of that time were aimlessly trying to effect a cure. Trusses, as the implements which hold or retain the rupture are called, were in use at that period in history, but like the modern truss they held the rupture but failed to assist nature in healing the wound. The ancients’ attempts at healing were mere gropings, as they knew nothing of the circulation of blood and its effect on body, tissue and body growth. The various phases of growth were mysteries which they were unable to fathom. Since Sir William Harvey, an English scientist of the early seventeenth century, discovered that blbod really circulated through the body, sending lifegiving materials to all parts of the human system, the path of the rupture scientists has been more easy to follow. They attempted to find, if possible, some method of retaining the rupture safely, yet something which would aTJow free circulation of blood and not irritate the edges of the hernia or rupture and which would hear! the tear. Assist Nature to Heal This has been done. Experiments carried on for more than thirty years have resulted in the perfection of an appliance, , light, safe, comfortable and clean, which assists nature and really heals the rupture. An additional improvement has been made; the entire appliance, whicji weighs less than two ounces, can now be washed in water or "antiseptics, eliminating all body odors, irritations and causes of skin blistering. The announcement was withheld for some time so that thousands of experiments which had been carried on in all sections of America, Holland, England, Canada and Germany could be investigated and the condition of these observed at frequent intervals. These Investigations have been made and it has been found that a great number of recoveries have been effected. That the healing has been permanent is attested by letters written by the people themselves and sent to the offices of those who perfected the new rupture appliance. These included people in every walk of life, people who make their living by hard work, where strains, heavy lifting and constant muscular effort is necessary. Others include society worrfin, working women and women

in moderate circumstances. The eases have been general in all classes. Heals the Aged j In their zeal to prove the worth of the new process, men and women of advanced years were selected'and their experiences recorded. A probe showed that even in this class a great number of permanent recoveries had resulted, where the patient followed closely the instructions of the experts. To really understand what this great discovery and these years of experimenting and testing mean to humanity, it is almost necessary that a full description of the new method be given. Like all inventions and discoveries of science, its i method of healing Is based on logic and upon a keen knowledge of the subject. A rupture or hernia, as it is known in medical science, is literally a tear or a separation of the muscle fibers in the walls of the abdomen. This separation is caused by a heavy strain, a violent jerking or unusual exertion. The fibers separate and ' allow a portion of the intestine to protrude through the opening. This results in a small knot or knob on the wall of the abdomen. Before the investigation, which resulted in the discovery of this new method of healing, therp were but two churses open. A physician or surgeon could be called and an operation performed or the patient or sufferer could seek some sort of comfort from a truss, which pushed itself Into the rupture opening, keeping the protruding intestine inside the body. All the surgeon with his knife could promise to do was to bring the edges of the torn section together and sew it, then await the action of nature and allow growth to renew the torn sections. Truss Prevents Healing If the truss was called Into service; the hard leather knob was forced into the tear where constant irritation wore thin the edges of the and the hard pressure pretented proper blood circulation. The ufferer was forced to resign himself to a lifetime oft rupture suffering, never free from the harness of the truss. No hope was held out by scientists that his rupture would ever heal itself, although many manufacturers of appliances contended that such a thing was possible; scientific investigation showed that it was impossible to heal the rupture as long as the heavy pad was being pushed Into the rupture opening, separating the edges of the tear and wearing thin the edges of the torn section.

Sir William Harvey, English Scientist, Whose Discovery of the Circulatory System Assisted So Greatly in Perfection of New Medical Discovery Which Heals Rupture. The heavy springs in the usual truss pressed into the body, many times injuring the kidneys and causing irreparable damage to the back where the heavy steel pressed into the tender nerves, centered in the spinal column. Besides this, so cruel was the old-fashioned truss, it was impossible to sleefl in the apparatus, with the result that in sleep many times the rupture "came out” and could not be replaced. When this happened an immediate operation was necessary if the life of the patient was to be saved. Peritonitis would result in 24 hours if the rupture strangulated or could not be replaced. The old truss was not washable; it caused skin irritations and the dirt which accumulated caused a feverish condition which retarded healing. The great number of rupture cases among the younger generation made necessary some method which would eliminate forever' the pushing pad, the dangerous operation and heavy steel encircling the body, injuring the delicate nerve centers. Experiments Bring Relief The experiments resulted in the discovery and perfection of the Brooks appliance. C. E. Brooks, a resident of Marshall, Michigan, was ruptured. He was not a doctor but he was a well educf.ted man. Rupture causes and rupture cures became his hobby and after many years he developed the appliance which now bears his name. *

The outline drawing of a section of the abdominal wall shows the new and old way by which rupture was treated. L’ntil the present discovery, a heavy pad or knob was used. It forced itself into the rupture opening, retaining the rupture, but making healing impossible. Figure 1 shows till rupture before the truss has been applied, and Figure 2 shows the truss in place. See how the edges of the wound in the abdominal wall are prevented by the old method from coming together and how healing is impossible. Figure 3 shows the rupture before the new healing appliance is in place, and Figure 4 shows the new appliance in place. Note the manner in which the edges are drawn together in normal position by the new discovery, allowing the rupture to heal. i

He soon found the deficiencies of the truss —the things it did to hinder and to retard healing. So he developed an appliance which did everything which the truss failed to do. With reverse logic he invented the rupture-appliance which resulted in the many recoveries narrated. Can Be Washed Daily His appliance, built scientifically and recommended by physicians and doctors in all sections of the world, lays—not pushes—on the rupture. Small, light, clean, safe and comfortable, its soft velvet- like air cushion of hygienic rubber retains the rupture and at the same time tnds to bring the edges of the tear together. The action of the small oval is to gently close the wound, and in this way allow growth. Nature, when assisted, soon repairs the damage wrought in the injured side and the result is relief for the sufferer. The washable, sanitary feature, so necessary if healing is expected and health assured, was incorporated into this new Invention. He elifhinated at once all metal springs and hard, unyielding pads. Sot, washable material encircles the body and acts as a support for the small oval. There are no features in the newly perfected appliance which do not work toward the healing of the patient. Every movement of the body results in the edges of the wound being brought closer together, reversing the action of the old style which constantly forced the edges of the wound apart. It is so light, so comfortable that it can be worn even while asleep, so

People in All Walks of Life anti of All Ages, Rupture Sufferers, Whose Hope of Relief Was Slight Until the Discovery of This New Scientific Treatment of Hernia, Need No Longer Be Left Hopeless. that night and day, asleep or at work, the rupture is being healed. Thousands Healed It is no wonder then that so many people have been healed by this new discovery. A volume of letters began to flow into the offices of the inventor as soon as recoveries were effected. People who thought they were destined to wear a truss all their lives reported healing in a few months. To ascertain the truth of the reports of permanent relief by the use of the new invention, a check was taken over a period of years and letters written to hundreds who had worn the new device.. The answers were amazing. Hundreds, literally thousands, torn for years by rupture and weakened by Its effects, had gained freedom from all devices by the consistent use of the new invention. In a letter to the inventors, Mrs. Thomas Scott of 11637 125th Street, Edmonton, Alta., Canada, said: . "One year ago I bought your rupture appliance for my daughter. During this year the rupture hasn't bothered her since I put the appliance on. "I surely am very thankful to you and you may use this letter as it may help some other worried mother.” An amazing recovery was effected by C. H. Campbell, a carpenter, 75 years old, living at Freeport, N. S.. Canada, who had been ruptured many years. He said: "I am pleased to inform you that

Strains of Unusual Positions Mean Nothing to Rupture Sufferers Now, as Science Has Perfected an Appliance 41 for Rupture Which Even During the Healing Stage Ddes Not Interfere With the Body Actions.

I do not need anything in connection with the appliance, for I have not worn same for the last nine months and consider myself healed of rupture. “The rupture has not troubled me for the last four years—thanks to you and your invention. It was a godsend to me.. I am 75 years old and work every day at my trade as a carpenter. You are atTiberty to use the above statement in any way you choose.” A brief period healed E. W. Brown of Norwich, N. Y., who states: "I discontinued wearing my appliance about six weeks ago and am happy to say that my rupture is entirely healed. Was examined by my doctor and pronounced cured. Considering my age, 61 years’, think this is wonderful work. “Cannot express to you just how grateful I am, for up to the time I commenced wearing your appliance was miserable every minute.” Steel Trusses Fail A proof that spring trusses failed to effect a cure while the more modern Brooks appliance made possible recovery which a doctor pronounced positive. The letter from Albert Foote, P. O. Box 177, Sterling, Mass., said: “Gentlemen: I wore your grand rupture appliance for one year, day and night, after which I underwent a doctor’s examinatioh. He stated I was completely cured. This examination was made in December, 1921, and I haven’t worn the appliance since and have had no trouble. “I suffered from a double rupture and had used spring trusses for six years without help.” A further proof that recoveries are permanent ones is verified by John Clark, Roan Mountain, Tenn., R. F. D. No. 2, Box 84, who said: “Your rupture appliance has cured me—l have been well for two years. “You may use my name and this letter in any way you wish, for I feel very grateful.” A sad case was disclosed when a man writing from Peoria, Illinoiis, gave the following statement. His name was withheld out of regard for his grief. It gives a striking example of the dangers of rupture,

especially where the old-fashioned spring truss is used. The application of the new Brooks appliance might have resulted in saving the man’s life. The letter from his son follows: “Dear Mr. Brooks: I am returning the rupture appliance for refund, as father died from strangulated hernia the day before it came. “We tried two years ago to get him to order one of your appliances and cannot help but feel that if he had done as wo wanted him to—he would have been spared.” Thousands Healed On file in the'offices of the company are thousands of letters telling of healing effected by this new invention and many of them full of thanks and gratitude for the relief which they had always thought impossible or too dangerous to attempt. So convinced are the people who now rtiake this new invention that It will heal rupture and bring instant relief they will allow a ten-day free trial of the new appliance. In ten days, they believe any rupture serer can tell whether or not It is satisfactory in his or her particular case. If it fails to give the comfort that they feel it should it caa he returned. Free Trial The financial standing of the people who make this newly perfected appliance is above reproach. They give as references, banks, ministers, physicians and express companies in their city or in practically any large city in the entire nation. “To gamble with rupture.” said a prominent scientist, “is to gamble with life Itself. Trusses hamper the wearer, they many times ruin the health for life. To secure an appliance, which retains and at the same time assists healing is wonderful and means much to mankind.” To obtai nth is appliance the readers of this paper can write to Brooks Appliance Cos., 696A Stato St., Marshall, Mich., and it will be sent for free test trial.
