MEMBERS SOUGHT JN STATE DRIVE BY LEGIONNAIRES Campaign Will Last Three Weeks —Take Census of State Vets. American Legionnaires of Indiana started this week on a three-weeks’ membership campaign, in contest with the Michigan department of the Legion for membership honors. Adding spice to the contest is the regulation that the losing department must present to the winners a United States flag and a Legion department standard. The drive will “go over the top” in "three waves,” the first ending on .Saturday, Jan. 22. Each wave lusts a week, ending Feb. 5, Special awards have been provided for posts and individual members getting the most new members to each wave and also for the whole campaign. The past week has been devoted to organization. A veteran’s census has been taken by the posts with the aid of the auxiliary units. When a British life-boat is damaged by stormy seas it is sent to a flkall, almost unknown dockyard in PPgland where a staff of more than 60 experts-is ready to repair it. Said Scouty, “Anybody knows that that’s a home for Eskimos. I guess we must be way up north ’cause that’s where they reside. What I would really like to know, is are they friend, or are they foe. I wish that we could reach that house so we could peek inside. Then Clowny said, “I’ll tell you what —I’ll show you all what nerve I’ve got. I’ll sneak ahead and lobk around. The rest of you can stay. This seems, I guess, the only source. I may run into harm, of course, and, If you hear me shouting, come a-run-ning right away.” The rest all yelled, “Hurrah for you!’’ And Clowny bid them all adieu, and started creeping through the snow To reach the frozen house. At times he almost thought he’d freeze. ’Twas cold upon his hands and knees, but on he went, real slow, but sure, as quiet as a mouse. But, then they all hoard Scouty saj, “Oh, shucks, he’ll surely get away if anything starts chasing. He can run like everything.” And, in the meantime Clowny reached the house just as a wee voice screeched. Now, what was that, he asked himself. It seemed real close at hand. Pie then crept forward one yard more and peeked inside the little door, and what he saw sure made him know this was a funny land. Before he had a chance to jump, an arm reached out, and with u thump, big fingers seemto pick him up and pull him back through space. He tried to yell with all his might, but he was much too filled with fright. The hand that grabbed him quickly pulled him right inside the place.
