MARKET BASKET
POPULAR DARK CAKE Beat one egg until light and add to it gradually one cup of sugar, then one-third cup melted butter. Next one cup sour milk into which one-half teaspoon of soda has been dissolved. Sift together one and one-half cups cake flour, two tablespoons of cocoa, a pinch of salt, and one-half teaspoon of baking powder, and mix into other ingredients. Lastly add one teaspoon vanilla. Pour into three layer cake tins and bake in moderate oven twenty-live minutes. Use any filling and icing prefered. Miss E. Burdiene Riggle. Roachdale, Ind., R. R. 3, Box 20. BOSTON BAKED BEANS Soak one pound of navy, marrowfat or chili beans, over night or longer. Drain. In sauce pan, blend over fire two level teaspoons salt, one teaspoon chopped onion, one half teaspoon paprika, two tablespoons bacon fat, one tablespoon molasses or brown sugar, one-half cup tomatoe juice and one pint hot water. CHILI ' N -One large can tomatoes, one can red kidney beans, one box spaghetti, one pound hamburg. one mediumsize onion. Into a large kettle put your tomatoes and red kidney Iteans (after they have been washed to remove the red liquor). CELERY RELISH One cabbage (four pounds), one and one-half dozen pimentoes, two dozen small green tomatoes, one heaping quart chopped celery, one quart chopped cucumbers (or pickles), one quart chopped onions, two hot peppers, one tablespoon white mustard seed, one heaping tablespoon salt, one heaping pint of sugar, one quart good cider vinegar. Chop cabbage, pimentoes and tomatoes separately, sprinkle one tablespoon of salt over each, let stand over night. Drain well, add other ingredients and boil twenty minutes. Seal while hot. This amount makes five quarts. Mrs. Horn Ramsey, Du Font, Ind. SUGAR TIE Three cups of light brown sugar, three eggs, one-half cup cream, onehalf cup of melted butter, one teaspoon lemon extract. CHOCOLATE PUDDING One cup sugar, one and one-half tablespoons cocoa, one tablespoon butter, one pint milk, two tablespoons cornstarch. Mix the sugar and cocoa, then add the milk and
butter, leave same to boll, then add cornstarch, which has been dissolved in a cup of water. When thick remove from fire and let cool. Serve whipped cream over it. Mrs. 11. Schuster, 221 E. Mix lightly one cup finely shredded cabbage, one cup chopped pickle and one-third can pimentoes. Season with salt. Just as gelatine begins to thicken add the mixture. HARD TIME VEAL IDAF Take one pound of hamburger and one half pound of sausage, two eggs and enough stale bread to make a mixture. Soak bread in water before mixing with meat. Season with salt and pepper. Make in loaf and put in pan. Garnish with sliced tomatoes or tomatoes sauce fine chopped onions and celerv. Cover with water and bake in hot oven. CORN PUDDING Two cups fresh green corn (or canned), one cup milk, two eggs beaten together. one tablespoon melted butter, one-half teaspoon salt, one eighth teaspoon pepper, one teaspoon cornstarch, two teaspoons sugar. Mix ingredients, put into oiled baking dish, set dish in pan of hoi water and cook until nearly firm. Remove from hot water, and bake until firm and brown on top. Serve as a vegetable. R. 2. < PINEAPPLE TAPIOCA One cup milk, one-third cup minute tapioca, two eggs, one-fourth tJaspoon salt, one and one-fourth tablespoons lemon extract, one third cup sugar, one pint pineapple whipped cream. Soak tapioca over night in a little water. In the morning put tapioca in the milk, add salt, boil slowly till tapioca Is soft, add yolks of eggs well beaten with sugar, pineapples and flavoring. Boil ten minutes. Add whites of eggs, beaten. Stir thoroughly. Serve with whipped cream. Miss Lelah White, Raccoon, Ind. RAISIN AND NUT CAKE Two cups sugar, two eggs, onchaif cup lard, three cups raisins, one cup nut meats, one and one-haif cups raisiu juice, three teaspoons cinnamon, two teashoons nutmeg, one heaping teaspoon soda, three and one-half cups flour. Cover raisins with water and slowly bring to boil. Cream sugar, eggs and lard. Stir soda into raisin Juice, which has been cooled. Add raisins, nuts, cinnamon and nutmeg and. lastly, the flour. A ten-year lease,' with rentals aggregating about $300,000 was taken by the Marmon Motor Car Company Wednesday on the building at Meridian and Eleventh Sts., It was announced by the real estate department of the Meyer-Kiser Bank, Who negotiated the deal. The Marmon Indianapolis branch now occupies the building, along with two other automobile dealers, the Charles G. Sanders Company, and the Chillson-Bohannon Sales Company. The North Meridian Realty Company, headed by R> A. McGill, owns the building.

They worked and worked to beat the band, and all around the hillside little balls of snow were made. The Tinymites all knew their stuff and, as each ball was big enough, ’twas pushed up to the snowhouse spot, and that’s right where it stayed. They worked for several hours or more. Just guess what they were working for. YVhy they decided they must have a place to sleep at night. And, when at last they stopped their fun, the wondorous big snqsrhouse was dohe, and all the Tinymites agreed their shelter looked all right. (The Tinymites make a snow man In the next story.)
