ASKS SUPPORT IN MOVE TO REPEAL PADLOCKING LAW Provision Hardship on Innocent Owners, Says F. M. .* Fauvre. The cooperation of the Indianapolis Real Estate Board has been asked | in a move to secure the repeal of i padlocking provisions in the prohibition law. Frank M. Fauvre of the : Fauvre Coal Company, points out in ■ a letter to the board that the pad- ; locking laws are a burden on property and do not tend to curb violations. L. H. Lewis, president, referred the letter to the legislative commit- | tee an advisory council for investii gation. Many Suffer i i “By the padlocking of over three t hundred properties in Indiana during the past year,” Fauvre says, “innocent owners have suffered losses running into thousands of dollars. Tenants who violate liquor laws are evicted and the owner is deprived of the income of rental. i “The padlocking law merely transfers the violation to another place. . If the principle of the law Is right, why not snake it a part of all crimi- \ nal laws? If the tenant had comImitted murder in it, the dwelling would nbt have been closed.” ’ The Real Estate Board has on I numerous occasions sought the support of county, State and Federal authorities, and the League, in the proper enforcement >f the padlocking law, Robert MacGregor, executive secretary of the board, declared. ..Protection Asked “It is our aim to protect the innocent property own§r,” MacGregor said. "It is not' fair to condemn him along with the owner who knows of liquor i/w violations being carried on at his property. ( “The general attitude of the board is to punish the guilty offender, but not cause the, innocent owner to - suffer for the acts of his tenants.” Affidavits against tenants violating the liquor laws have often included the property owner who knew • nothing of the situation, according to Leo Welch, a member of the board’s property management committee. “This practice is unfair,” he said. "However, it is gratifying to know that such occurrences have been fewer of late than last spring.” It is understood a move will be made by a number of property owners before the coming session of the General Assembly to secure a modification or repeal of the padlocking provisions of the laws.

FIRM TAKES OVER ASPHALT COMPANY The General Asbestos and Supply Company, 426 S. Meridian St., has taken over the Asbestos and Asphalt Products Compunv, 410-412 S. Meridian St. The QeneriJb Asbestos and Supply Company is local agent of Johns-Manville asbestos product?. The company is operated by Alfred Voight, who organized it three yearago. The reorganization of the company is lreiag consummated, Voight said. The company will continue to use the building at 410-412 S. Meridian St. for warehouse purposes. It occupies a four-story building at 426 S. Meridian. St. The General Asbestos and Supply Company lias developed a splendid business. The Johns-Manville products are nationally known and recognized as unusually high-grade materials. As the pioneer concern in manufacturing asbestos products, the Jons-Manville Company has .a histories background for its promotional activities. For fourteen years Voight was connected with the Johns-Manville concern? handling its products in this territory. He is well known among building supply concerns in Indiana.. The company is invoicing the stock of the Asbestos and Asphalt Products Company. It will handle various grades of asbestos products for insulation purposes. Fifty New Bungalows Will Be Built By Puritan Finance Firm

SUBSTATIONS TO BE DONE MARCH l The Ave new substations of the Indianapolis Street Railway Company are expected to be in operation approximately March 1, according to Fermor S. Cannon, architect, who designed the buildings. The substations will mark another step of progress of the Indianapolis Street Railway Company in Its service program for Indianapolis. The stations will be the latest step in the distributimi of high tension current to the various street car lines. One will be at the canal and St. Clair St.; one at Highland Ave. and St. Ctyir St.; one on E. Washington St., Sherman Dr.; one on Twenty-Fourth St., east of Pennsylvania St., and one at McCarthy St. and Capitol Ave. The station at St. Clair St. and the Canal will serve as the "master substation,” controlling the other four.
