STATE COUNSEL FOR CHILDREN IS URGED They Are Chief Sufferers in Divorces, Says Article — Would Safeguard Interests.
Children should be represented by State lawyers in all divorce suits in which children are involved. The children of a couple seeking divorce have a paramount interest in the decision that will affect their parents’ future; and the State should appoint special counsel to see that their intreats are safe-guarded. These statements are embodied in an appeal for a reform in American divorce laws to increase the protection for minor children, written by William Johnson and published in December Good Housekeeping. Divorces Doubled Pointing out that the number of divorces has more than doubled in the last twenty-five years and that divorce is becoming increasingly prevalent, the writer says. “The separation of two childless persons who cannot get along together—ln my opinion at least—matters very little to anyone butthemselves. But when the parents of children are divorced, when a home is broken up, it is entirely different. The home is the foundation of civilised life. “The lot of the tens of thousands of children, who through no fault of their own become ‘divorced children’ is never a happy one. The atmosphere penetrates them and fills them with unhappy thoughts and morbid imaginings. Frequently they are exposed to shame and reproach from their playmates. “The disruption of a home by divorce seems to have an appalling effect on the morale of the children. Every child stands In need of a home HER FOOD FORMED LIKE SOLID ROCK IN HER STOMACH Agonizing Cramps, Terrible Indigestion Pains and Years of Misery Banished by Konjola, She States. “I am actually out of misery, enjoying new health in every way. since I have taken Konjola, and I am going to give all of the time I can to praising this medicine, for I know what great benefits it will bring to others who suffer,’’ I \ $ MRS. NELLIE COX Mrs. Nellie Cox, 617 Maxwell St., Indianapolis, in a recent statement she gave to the Konjola Man who is explaining this remarkable medicine to large crowds daily at Hook's Drug Store. Pennsylvania and Market Sts., this city. "For a period of five years I was constantly suffering,” said Mrs. Cox. “I was told that I had a bad case of stomach trouble, besides weak kidneys and a sluggish liver. Every bite of food I ate would feel like a heavy, solid rock in the pit of my stomach. For a whole year I couldn't eat a thing except oatmeal, r was subject to agonizing cramps and terrible indigestion pains after every meal. My heart would palpitate so fast I thought it was going to run away and I would swell up with gas until I thought the pains would kill me. My limbs and ankles were swollen due to kidney trouble, and for over two years I couldn’t out on a shoe. The neighbors wiil verify my statement that I haven’t been to town in over two years, l always had such nervous spells and would get blue and discouraged and cry for hours at a time. I was also a victim of constipation and only the very strongest purges would give relief and soon these lost pffect. I had dizzy spells and black spots would appear before my eyes "Now I want to tell you I have taken dozens of medicines and none of them had any more effect on me than so much water, and I wouldn’t even try Konjola until finally a friend of mine insisted and then T took It just to please her. It wasn't two days until I found out it was helping me. I w T as happy, believing I had found the medicine I always needed, and as I continued I kept getting better every day. Now I am free of every ache and pain that f had and the swelling in my limbs and ankles has gone down. The nausea spells are completely gone, and I don’t even have the lightest attack of indigestion, although X eel many things I never dared to touch before. I can sleep good for the first time in years, and I don’t have dizzy spells or black spots in front of my eyes. My whole system is regulated and I don’t have to take a thing for constipation. "Oh, I have had such blessed relief since I found Konjola that l will never stop praising It and I hope others who suffer will get this wonderful medicine, because I know it will bring results.” The Konjola Man is at Hook's Drug Store, Pennsylvania ami Market Sts., Indianapolis, where he is daily meeting the local public and introducing and explaining the merits of this remedy. Konjola is sold by every Hook store in Indianapolis and by all druggists in tin nearby towns throughout this sec-alcm.—-Advertisement. , ' *•
where there is the influence and direction of both a father and mother. Remarriage Problem “A badly run home with quarreling parents works havoc with the child’s character. But how infinitely worse the effect where parents seek the divorce court, making charges of immoi-ality against each other. What aspect on life can a young girl have*when she hears the mother she has loved and respected accused of base .actions? What will be her own code when she matures? "Where, as frequently happens, divorced parents remarry and rear other families, the problem of divorced children becomes even more acute. "Parents who get divorces, disregardful of the children that they have brought into the world, certainly are neglecting an important duty to society. “The problem of the disposal of the divorced child, though divorces have been going on for centuries, has never reached a satisfactory solution, and indeed has had little intelligent consideration. the custom In America to leave the disposal of the fate of the child or children to the judge who grants the divorce decree.” Interest Unquestioned Urging the appointment of State sawyers to represent minor children In divorce actions, the article says: “There can be no question that the children are entitled to legal representation when their parents appear in court demanding divorce. The State in many other ways oversees the welfare of its future citizens. Parents are not permitted to starve or abuso their children or let them go uneducated. The right of government to interfere in these matters is unquestioned. “The State’s real concern in marriage is not the happiness of the husband and wife, but the welfare of the children of that marriage, ft is to the advantage of the community that the children shall be properly nourished, properly reared and properly educated.” WANTS BROTHER'S BODY llv United- Prr*n CHICAGO, Dec. 23.—John L. Clements, a livestock broker, has made a novel plea to the gangsters of Chicago—a plea that he be given information as to the whereabouts of his brother's body, as a Christmas present. According to the broker his brother gave up dealing in illegal liquor last summer, and had been in constant fear of his life since. He disappeared Dec. 16.
