HOOSIERS UPHOLD HIGH CANAL PRICE Watson and Robinson Against Amendments. Times Wnxhlnnton Rureau. 1322 New York Avenuo WASHINGTON, Dec. 22.—After voting against the Howell amendments to the rivers and harbors bill, which would have radically reduced the price to be paid by the Government for the Cape Cod Canal, Senators Watson and Robinson voted for tho bill, which carries $70,000,000 for river and harbor improvements, Including those'bn tbs Ohio River. It passed, 57 to 0. Howell maintained that the price of $11,200,000 asked for the Cap© Cod. Canal was extortionate, and that the only interests profiting from the purchase would be New York financiers who built the canal, whiclt has made little money as a private enterprise. His first amendment would have reduced the purchase price about $2,000,000. He offered others also calling for much less than the price sot in (he bill. On all those of which there was a record roll call the Indiana Senators voted for the higher price.
