BAR ASSOCIATION SEEKS ABOLITION OF PAM BOARD Restoration of Determinate Criminal Sentences Urged. Further proposed changes In criminal procedure which will be sponsored in the coming Legislature by the Indiana State Bar Association were announced today. Among the proposed changes, suggested by the criminal jurisprudence committee, headed by Criminal Judge James A. Collins, are: Abandonment of the indeterminate sentence system, restoration of determinate sentences and striking revision of penalties. Ask Criminal Bureau The association will support abanlonment of the pardon board and tvill ask that bureaus of criminal record and identification be established in each county under supervision of the secretary of State. In restoring the determinate sentences, the followingterms have been proposed: manslaughter, now two to twenty-one, limited to ten years: robbery, now two to twenty-one, will be ny determinant period up to twen-ty-five years, with second conviction carrying life imprisonment; assault and battery with attempt to commit a felony, now two to fourteen years, Will be limited to ten years; rape, now five to twenty-one, limited to five years; arson now two to twentyDne, limited to ten years; burglary, now ten to twenty years, limited to ten year; vehicle taking, now three to five years, up to five years on first offense and ten years on second offense; auto banditry, now ten to twenty-five years, limited to twentyfive years; grand larceny, now one to fourteen years, limited to five years, with the mimimum amount stolen totaling SIOO, and embezzlement, now two to fourteen years, limited to ten years. Other Changes In urging abolishment of the pardon board it is recommended that a Bystem be adopted, whereby convicts may automatically reduce their sentences by good behavior. Several days ago the association announced three proposed constitutional amendments and a number of statutory changes. NEW BOOKS SELECTED Reading Circle Board Picks Five New Publications. Five new books have been adopted by the State Teachers’ Reading Circle, It haa been announced, following a meeting of the Indiana Young People’s and Teachers Reading Circle board at the Statehouse, Saturday. The books are "Fundamentals In English," by Cross; "Research for Teachers," by Buckingham; Political Parties and Party Problems,” by Woodbum; "Education for Character," by Sharp, and "Nature, Practice and History of Art," by Magonlgle. CITY GROWTH IS SHOWN Postal Survey Indirates Steady Expansion in Indianapolis. Evidence of a solid and substantial growth is shown In a postoffice survey of the occupancy of office rooms, business rooms, residences and apartment spites, and in the construction of residence, according to A. B. Mundelle, superintendent of mails. There are now 121,6999 places for possible delivery of mail, compared to 118,384 places last February, the summary shows. In addition, the report shows 114,7222 occupied office rooms, business rooms, residences and suites in apartments, whereas last February there were only 11,138 such occupancies.

GRADE PAPERS OF POLICEASPIRANTS Civil Service Commissioners Busy Today. Grading the examination papers of fifty-eight husky aspirants for the police force was the major activity of civil service commission members today.
