Otterbein Wards Give Pageant Here Growth of the Otterbein Home for Children and Old People, a welfare institution of the United Bretheren Church near Lebanon, Ohio, was portrayed in pageants given in Indianapolis Sunday by twenty-three children from the home. The children, under the direction of Mr. Aind Mrs. A. ft. Brane, supedintendent and matron, appeared at Indiana Central College and the First U. B. Church in a rally of Indianapolis churches. The rally was part of a campaign for Christmas offerings for the Otterbein home work. The children repeated the pageant at Richmond, Ind., Sunday evening. Band concerts by the children followed the pageants. The Otterbein home formerly was part of the old Shanker settlement. The U. B. church acquired it and 4,005 acres several yehrs ago. EARLY TRIAL AT WARSAW EXPECTED (Continue*! From F&gn 1) school and ordered Robert, 18. a( younger brother to pour It down th* well. Thirteen children drank the water the next day and ware made seriously 111. The older brothers wtn be prosecuted first on auto banditry charges. Inasmuch as the younger brothers charged an auto was used in. Che alleged plot. Revenge, because their sister was refused the position as teacher at the Mt. Tabor school. Is assigned as the motive by Prosecutor Rockhill. Mrs. Pearl Applegate, 40, wife of John Applegate, another farmer living near East Millwood, was assigned to the school Instead. “Trouble started as soon as school opened,” Mrs. Applegate explained today. “Edward and George Riley attended the Mount Tabor school and complained dally at the difference between my teaching and that ol their sister. “Their mother took them from th* school after a month and plaood.them with their sister at East Millwood. After this change the boys hooted at me from outside the school and a number of books were mutilated after the school lious* was broken Into one night, some time before the poisoning." Rockhlll declared the Riley boys confessed to having entered the school and tearing the books. “This failed to disrupt the sohool,"l| he stated, “and the boys then plotted® the poisoning after putting sticks and stones Into the well on another occasion." “There Is absolutely no ground for suspicion of my family,” George B. Riley, father of the boys declared. “Ruth was transferred to East Millwood because the people there didn’t want Mrs. Applegate another term. My older boys hardly know the woman and certainly have nothing against her.” Rlloy refused to comment when asked about the little boys* confessions allegod to have been given to the prosecutor.
FAIRBANKS, MORSE MAY GET GROUND (Continued From Page 1) creasing the taxable valuation of adjoining properties. If a, plant Is erected on the site. “I know the commissioners and the council agree on this, because I have talked to each member personally." After the manufacturing concern bought the main part. It was charged that the connty records, showing the sale, were tampered with. Pages Inserted, Charge It was charged that several pages describing the tract bought,' and including the spur, were inserted In the original ordinance and when councilman and commissioners Inspected the record they found it was not the one signed and altogether different stipulations were contained In It. There Is a motion before Special Judge Fred C. Gause to quash the Indictment against Leo K_ Fesler, former auditor, charged with altering the record. Although he said in September he would act on the matter within a ftnv days, nothing has been done. In regard to the railroad spur, County Auditor Harry S. Dunn stated that the county “will go half-way with the company on the matter.” The Morse plant employs more than 850 men and has an annual pay roll of $250,000. The company began malting plans for the addition on the workhouse grounds In 1923 and contemplated erection of the first unit of new edifices at a cost of about $300,000. Because of the delay In straightening out the matter, the firm has been forced to send much of Its work outside this State. Shortly after the situation was brought to light by The Times, it was learned that the company contemplated moving from the city because production and growth was hampered without use of the new location.
