One of the things which time has not altered is the youngster’s love for dolls —for dolls are old as humanity. In the British Museum in London is a flat, painted, wooden doll, with strings of mud beads to represent hair, with which a child In Egypt played thousands of years ago. This rough and ready example of the doll-maker’s art would hardly satisfy the modern child’s fastidious taste, for only close representation of a living baby will do. Hence the best skill of the craftsman is used today in doll making. Realizing how much pleasure a "Flossie Flirt" is to its readers’ children. The Times has devised a simple means by which readers can obtain one or more of these dolls absolutely free. The Times has arranged with the greatest firm of doll makersiifn f the world to supply an unlimited number of these "Flossie Flirt” dolls for presentatibn. They sum up the achievements of past doll artists, and add something distinctively modern and original. Made up of an unbreakable composition, they are delightfully clad, have real hair, turn

Indianapolis Crowds Murat to Hear Chaliapin
By John T. Hawkins An event that has been anticipated for weeks and months came to a close last night at the Murat Theater when the final curtain closed the performance of Feodor Chaliapin and his company in their performance of Rossini’s great work, “The Barber of Seville.” As Chaliapin stepped on the stage in his first appearance In the second act, the power of his personality was j instantly apparent. For several I minutes the opera stopped. Chaliapin | must be welcomed. And then every- | thing was still, everyone waiting for the first sound of that remarkable | voice that belongs to Chaliapin i alone. he fitted Into the plot of the opera oe could easily see tprhy he is called the greatest of singing actors. He is an actor, an actor who ranks along with the greatest dramatic personalities of the stage, but he Is a singer and therein lays his great power. When he enacts a role it Is

primarily the voice that catches one but behind it is that dramatic thing that is Chaliapin. Surrounding Chaliapin is a company that we in Indianapolis seldom have the pleasure to hear. The part of Figaro, the barber, which offers much to it's, portrayer, in the hands of Giorgio Durando last night was so perfectly handled that even the great name of Chaliapin was overshadowed as the audience listened to I the marvelous baritone voice of the singer.
Elvira De Hidalgo, as Rosina, the much sought maid, Is a soprano that know her voice and uses It in a manner that is a pleasure to hear. She, as well as Chaliapin and Durando, pleased the crowded house to the extent that several times the applause was so great after a number of hers that everything must stop and she acknowledge It, Man singing as the Count of Almaviva has a fine tenor voice, but last night seemed to he not sure of his cues. His nervousness detracted from his performance a great deal. Dr. Bartolo, In the hands of Giuseppe La Puma, was well done, the comedy in the part being excellently handled. All In all. Last night’s presentation of the "Barber" was an occasion which we would have deeply regretted to have missed. It was our first Impression of Chaliapin. Durando and the others we can say that “The Barber of Seville” as put on by this company
