You Have Been Waiting to Hear Nick Lucas Sing and Play ‘Precious’
By Walter D. Hickman tNick Lucas certainly comes to own with his idea of "gultaring” a tew thing called, "Precious.” Nick certainly puts moonlight and proses and a lot of class into this new 'Brunswick number. It seems to me that "precious” is Just the sort of melody that Lucas ! can tease out of his guitar and his throat with the greatest ease. This one number has sufficient 'quality and charm to make it one of the best sellers In this country today. 1 “Precious” has nifty lyrics and it I has a clever little swing which will ; cause even a person without a voice to even try and hum it. I know that I can not carry a tune ■ in a bushel basket, but Nick and his precious number caused me to limber Up to the extent that I could get on the musical band wagon for a short time anyway. This one number should carry Nick Lucas to new fame with his public. Am told that he is a favorite with the Prince of Wales. Well we have liked him for months and the papers didn’t say much about that. As Ted Lewis is coming to town lOiext week in LeMaire's Affairs, I Thave been asked to list his new piumber on Columbia. The latest one that I have Is "The New St. .Louis Blues” which he plays In the .how and "My Mamma’s In Town." If you recall, I told you once before that this Lewis-Columbla record was ■quite the goods. It refleflcts the personality and the method of this man. Here is a good date night record—gpt Gillljam, the whispering love aker, singing and playing "Tender- ” and "Thinking.” If this isn’t

date night atmbsphere I do not lfnow what ozone really Is. Have located a good record of “In A Little Garden.” This number seems to be quite a favorite. I recommend Ernie Golden and his Hotel McAlpin Orchestra playing this one on a Brunswick. On the other side you have "I Wonder What’s Become of Joe?”

LOOKING OVER NEW EVENTS AT THE PALACE V Fred Ardath, at the Palace today and tomorrow with new scenery and some new specialties by the different members of his company, has another act that has much do entertain in the way of a variety offering. The whole orchestra isn’t used this time, and those that do play offer only two or three numbers. The quartet Is the big feature of the act in this show, and their numbers are fine. Also featured In the act are a dance by one of the women, and a dance finale by the whole company at the close. Billed as the "Three Sailors” are three, men who dress as sailors and < offer comedy pantomime that has I much to recommend It. Their com j edy is good and they have a good I close In their dance offering. Grant Gardner, in black face, has a comedy monologue in which he takes up about everything he thinks of and tells it in a humorous man ner.
Missed the opening act. Bill includes a photoplay, “The Unknown Savalier,” with Ken May- | nard, also'news reel. At the Palace today and tomorj row. (By the Observer.)
