FINDS SNAKE IN CABBAGE; IS NO MYTH Windfall Woman Notices ‘Ffter’ Move While Making Kraut. Bu Times Special WINDFALL, Ind., Deo. 2.—Mrs. Obediah Overman, living five miles east of Windfall, believes the story about “cabbage snakes” that ran riot several years ago is true. While making sauerkraut she noticed something resembling fiber in the cabbage. When she pulled the fiber from the leaves it was easily detached, long and very noticeable. Finally Mrs. Overman cut a head in two and a coiled and knotted object tumbled out on the table. She examined it and found it was alive. She put it in a glass tumbler and set it on a shelf in her living-room. The snake was still alive after six days and lived on cabbage and water that Mrs. Overman provided. With the naked ey'e it looked like a white sewing thread, and is about five inches long. It coals and uncoils when disturbed. "Years ago,’’ said Mrs. Overman, “there was a story going about cabbage being infested with ‘cabbage snakes.’ Many declared it to be a myth. Long afterward I found something in a cabbage very much like this one, only much longer. I remember it well. I think most likely that is thf reason I came to think this might be more than fiber in the cabbage. They are so indiscernible one wouldn’t notice them easily.”
