Thirty years, to a day, after his father had met with a serious accident under exactly similar circumstances, Laszio Picardi, Jr., famous Hungarian acrobat, broke his hands and feet and otherwise disqualified himself for further work on the trapeze. From 18S7 to 1896 Plccardi was as well known to central Europe as Charlie Chaplin now is to America. He was a dare-devil circus jumper,

his most famous thriller being a stunt performed over a bed of bayonets with points turned upward. One evening, just before the time for him to--go on, he had a quarrel with his wife. During his act, because of over-strung nerves, he missed his jump and landed on the bayonets. He was so badly mutilated that he was relegated to the role of a clown upon recovery. Following in the footsteps of his father, young Piccardi also became a trapeze performer. Recently he and his partner, Vamacksa, organized a circus of their own in Budapest. Both fell in love with the same girl, who was also attached to the circus. They fought a duel. Piccardi won the duel, and with it the girl. Against the advice of his father, who warned him that any woman will ruin an acrobat, young Piccardi married her. On the thirtieth anniversary of his father's accident he found her in compromising circumstances with his partner. A quarrel ensued. Shortly thereafter, Piccardi, due to his over-excited state, fell from his trapeze. A clown’s life will probably be his fate If he survives his injuries.
