Porch’s Stones Brought From Labrador By Ice

pupuf. j?

Rocks brought here by an ice floe 1,000,000 years ago used in the porch of tliis house at 151 Downey Ave. Bobbie Burgess, 5, and Ids S-year-old sister, Jean, who lives next door, are inspecting the rocks.

A stone porch and fireplace hauled 1,600 miles to Indianapolis from Labrador—one million years ago! And the transportation didn’t cost the owner one cent! Which is the history of parts of the fifteen-room house at 151 Downey Ave., owned by Mrs. Wallace Knapp of 425 Linwood Ave. and tenanted until recently by the Delta Delta Delta Sorority of Butler College. Approximately two hundred granite. quartz and greenstone bowlders ranging In size from the size of one’s fist to that of a bushel basket, have been artistically arranged to form the porch and fireplace of the house. The finished product stands as a geological collection of historic rocks, all of which were selected because of their flat surfaces, showing distinctly

MINISTER STRESSES BLESSINGS Os SPIRIT Pastor of Church Attended by President Coolidge Discusses on Thanksgiving Day.

By Rev. Jason Noble Pierre, D. D. President Coolldee’s Pastor Copyright. 1926. by the United Urea* WASHINGTON. Nov. 25. Thanksgiving. The hour has come, the table fairly groans under the weight of an old-fashioned dinner, whose heavenly odors have reached the large, expectant family. With Joyful hearts father and mother, sons, daughters and grandchildren find their places, bow their heads (some “watch and pray”) and the blessing Is asked. “Thanks be to |God.” The fat gobbler couldn’t say that even when alive. He ate God-given corn, basked in God’s sunshine, breathed God’s air, but knew not God. He became friendly and trustful of his earthly master and was rewarded with the ax and the roasting oven. Higher Order Justifies The vindication of man for such procedure must lie in his being of a higher order of beings than his food. And that calls for thanksgiving. We are partakers of the dlvlnq life, children of God. Not the pen, the ax and the oven, but liberty, the abundant life and Immortality are ours. Grandmother may die in ripe Old age, and the Infant be taken from his mother's breast, but neither perishes. With St. Paul we cry, “O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?” Thanks bfc to God who giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. There's a man for you, that man St. Paul. He might not have been a

the scratches which date them back to the Ice Age. Geologists estimates the latest glacial floe, called the Wisconsin Drift, extended over the present site of Indianapolis from Its formation in Labrador, and had its boundary some fifty miles or so to the south. This glacier took 22,000 years to*advance, it is said bringing along\with It bowlders from the upper Canadian highlands. The bowlders were selected from deposits unearthed in an old brickyard in the 4700 block oi> E. Tenth St., nnd along Pogue’s Run northeast. of the city, according to W. J. Weesner, architect. Those chosen were handpicked for their color harmony, symmetry, and flat surfaces, Weesner said.

connoiseur as to whether chestnuts or oysters or spiced bread would make the best turkey stuffing, but he had a glad and thankful heart. With all his plans upset, he could write, “Thanks be to God, who always leadeth us in triumph in Christ.” W’hen his work Increased so that helpers were necessary, he writes, “Thanks be to God, who putteth the same earnest care for you Into the heart of Titus.” And when passions within and fightings without might well make any man despair, he acknowledged the Lord of his life with the paean, “Thanks be to God for His unspeakable gift.” Material blessings are highly desirable, and we are thankful for those God directly gives, for those he permits us to earn, and for those mediated to us through othera. But our supreme blessings always are spiritual blessings. No barriers need keep us from them. God is Waiting to bestow them upon us-' as abundantly as we can receive them, the gifts of life and immortality, of His dally care nnd guidance, of the power of His spirit to produce cooperation among men, and of that greatest gift of all, which beggrtrs description, the "unspeakable gift.” Then, with heartfelt Joy, we may gather about the festive board, in spirit if not in space* and with others to share our blessings we bow our heads and life our hearts in glad acknowledgement, Thanks be to God.

T arkington, Approves Tiger-Crimson Split Booth Tarklngton, author apd Princeton man, approves of his alma mater's breaking athletic relations with Harvard, a school, he cantends, which does not understand "friendly rivalry-’ This opinion was expressed when Tarklngton returned home Wednesday, after spending the summer at Kennebunkport, Me. Tarklngton attended the recent football game, where the Harvard Lampoon, college comic magazine, lampooning Princeton, was passed about. Princeton retaliated by winning the game and then breaking with Ha*vard for the "unseemingly attempts at levity." The author expects to remain in Indianapolis throughout the winter, working on short stories and magazine articles. / HERMAN GRAY ELECTED Schnlarsliip Rule >f Phi Kappa Psi Praised at Dinner. 1 Phi Kappa Psi fraternity ruling requiring all freshmen members rto, pass their first semester studies before being initiated wds landed hy George A. SHORT FEED CROP ADDS IMPORTANCE TO DISTRIBUTION Yield Is About 6 Per Cent Below Average, Report , Shows. Bv Times Special > There will be no feed surplus this year. The production of food grains' and hay in 1926 wju* less bountiful than in 1925, but with the proper distribution there will bo enough to go around. These are the conclusions of the Blue Valley Creamery Institute ih a review oi the feed situation. Last year’s crop production was heavy and. a total of oyer 225,000,000 tfih.4 of feed wore produced. This year conditions have not been so favorable, and the prospects are for a total feed production of 213,000,000 tons, 6.3 per cent below last year's production and about 6 per cent over the average for the past five years. Both concentrate* and roughages are affected by this drop, but the former is the more vital, Including as it does corn, which is by far the most Important feed crop produced. Carryover Is Help The shortage in the feed crop pro* duction this year is not ns serious as might at first appear, because of tho heavy carryover from last year's bumper crops, particularly corn and oats, the Institute states. Then, too, the smaller number of livestock is also a big factor. The horse and mule population is more than TO per 1 cent under the five-year average and still decreasing, the beef and! dairy caitle are 8 per cent under, nnd the hog population about 12 peH cent below tho average. This mennsl that the lowered feed crop produc* tlon this year will be balanced byt the reduction in the number of live-l stock, and will not necessitate reduced feeding. Feeding Important For tho most economical producJ tlon of butterfat, pork, eggs and' other farm products, the matter of proper feeding is the most Important factor. Therefore, with no oversupply of good grain feeds on farms! at. this time, it will pay big to glvrt special attenton to feeding well nhd without waste. Dairy cows will maintain theirt body weight and good health on at liberal supply of good alfalfa liny and cirn silage, all they will clean up at each fetdlng. For milk pro duction they need additional feed ,in the form of a well-balanced grain mixture, fed at the rate of ono pound to every three or four pounds of milk produced. Corn, of course, is the cheapest and most efficient hog feed in midwest States. When it is supplemented with skim milk, an Ideal feed for hogs Is made. A good, dry mash and skim milk with tho regular scratch grains for poultry Is the secret of large and most economical egg production in winter.
