HITS NATION’S GRAFT Commercial Greed Also Assailed by Big Meeting Speaker. “I would not trade places with the politicians who are stirring up religious and race hatreds for the highest public office in the land,” said Judge George I). Alden of Boston at the Y. M. C. A. Big Meeting Sunday afternoon at the Murat Theater. ‘‘When we cure America of commercial greed, political graft and corruption, domestic infidelity and religious indifference, we Will have turned from gold back to God again.” Judge Alden scored religious sharks who study the Bible “with a miscroscope instead of a pair of opera glasses.” Test Answers These are the correct answers to the questions which appear on page four: 1. HIS FIRST RELIEF IN 7 TERRS FROM RHEUMATIC PAWS “My Suffering Ended Last March,” Says Local Man. “Konjola Made Me Completely Well.”
‘‘There is not a happier man anywhere in the State than I am, since Konjola ended my rheumatism, and I can prove by a dozen of my friends that before I got this medicine I had made trips to three of the best health resorts in America, had taken elec-
MU. ERNEST SCHAEFER trie and spinal treatments mkl I have taken several gallons of various medicines into my system—but I still suffered and was a victim of rheumatism for seven years until I finally got Konjola last March and my suffering was completely ended by this new compound and here It is November without a single ache or pain in my body, so if ever anybody wants to know about this new Konjola remedy, they can come and see me ,or write a' letter, or telephone me.” This remarkable statement was made less than a week ago by a wellknown Indianapolis citizen, Mr. Ernest Schaefer, 1017 English Ave., this city. His report tells in detail about the work of this celebrated Konjola medicine, which is being sold in such large quantities by the Hook Drug Stores, and which the itonjola Man Is explaining personally to large crowds daily at Hook’s Store on Pennsylvania and Market Sts., Indianapolis. ‘‘Yes, Konjola made me completely well,” continues Mr. Schaefer’s statement. “My suffering ended last March, and it was the first relief I got In 7 years. I walked with a crutch and a cane for 5 years and very seldom left the house, except ori Trips to health resorts for mineral baths and treatments. I have lived right here on English Ave. for 30 years, and everybody in this part of town knows me. They see me today without the cane or crutch, walking as pood as anyone, and almost everybody in the ’ neighborhood knows
about my case. “I used to have such agonizing pains that I would cry out in misery. At times I would have given anything for a minute's relief. My knees were swollen, joints stiff and cramped, and even my fingers were so afflicted that I couldn't close my ?iand. This was my condition last March. I was In the worst shape I had ever been before, after trying to get relief from every known source. I was 75 years old and I thought I would have rheumatism the rest of my life. At this time, my grocer had the Konjola Man to visit me. I was confined at home like an invalid. It was March 23: I will never forget the day. T decided to take Konjola, but of course, I had no faith in it at that time. After I had taken a few doses T had a restful night and I got up in the morning and dressed myself and hobbled down stairs alone, without help, for the first time in over 3 years. I knew the medicine was having effect, and T also noticed I could eat better. The second week the swelling in my knees started to leave. I kept right on with Konjola and before I started on the third bottle, I could walk without the cane or crutch. I got better every day from that time on, and my suffering has never returned. T have also gained about ten pounds and my rheumatism Is entirely gone, and as I said, nobody is any happier than I Am now. "After Konjola has done all these things for me, it will always have my strongest praise." The Konjola Man Is at Hook’s T>rug Store. Pennsylvania and Market Sts.. Don sat by the side of the bed. “Have you decided what you want to do?” “I have.” Something in her tone made him ask, uneasily, "You will go home for a while?” “No. And I don’t want to go to the apartment.” His weary smile touched her. “What is it, Sonia? I see you’ve quite made up your mind.” “Oh, I hope you won’t disapprove of it. Don, did you really mean what you said about getting married?” His eyes blazed. “Did I mean it? Os course, I did.” “Would you ...?” She was plaiting the counterpane with tense, precise, fingers. "Woulgl you marry me today? This afternoon? So that I won’t have time to change my mind?” “Why should you change your mind, Sonia If you love me... But you don’t. Do you think I can’t tell? Don’t you know I wouldn’t take you that way? It wouldn’t be fair.” “Maybe it wouldn't be fair to you,” she begged. "Maybe I don’t exactly love you the way I should a husband. But you’re the sort of man I ought to marry. You have everything I need. And I will love you, Don. I’m sure I will If you give me time.” “There’s no use, Sonia. I can't do it.” “Then you don’t car*. If you did, you’d be willing to take a chance.” "That has nothing to do with it. You’re too young. It would not be fair to you.” "It would be the best thing in the world for me. I’ve gotten into com- 1 plications There are temptations I’m | tfraid I can’t resist.” ‘You love Franklin Crane?” “Yes,” she confessed. “I do love him. But he is engaged to another girl, and has no intention of marrying me. I don’t know that I want him to. He drinks—was drinking Saturday. And he can be cruel.” Her vision blurred. “He isn’t the husband I'd choose if I were in my right mind.” "But Sonia. ..." “Oh, I know. It’s the sweetness of his mouth —the way he kisses me .... Physical things! He fascinates me, Don.- I can’t trust myself with him. But if I could get away. I didn’t realize . . . .” Slumping into the pillow r s, Sonia burst into tears. He came to her and gathered hetup in kind arms. “Don't you cry about it, honey. Can’t you see how you’d hate me? Wearing my name, tied to a man you don’t care for?" "But, I do. I adore you. This other thing is like a fever. It’s in my blood. Why won’t you help me as you would if It were a real disease? I’m so tired of fighting it alone. I don’t sleep. You can see how thin I am.”
“Do you really believe it is only a temporary madness, Sonia? That back of it all is a lasting affection for me?” “I am on the verge of loving you now. My mind loves you.” But memories of the oblivion she found in Franklin’s arms took away her breath. “You see. Even the thought of him is too much." “Even the thought of him hurts,” she insisted. "He was here yesterday and he said things I can never forgive. He doesn’t love the real me, either. It’s my lips and my body he loves.” Suddenly she laid her cheek against his hand. "Won’t you please marry me—or is it the responsibility that worries you?" "It isn't that at all.” “I am so frightened. So sick of life. You were right when you said there are experiences that sear the soul. This has been one of them. I’m through. I don’t want any more. I don’t want to go any deeper into things as I know I wi11.... Save me, Don. Please!” "Are you sure you wish to be saved?" She brushed the tears from her eyes, laughing hysterically. “Oh, I do! But you must do it today. Can you get a license? Can we be married very quietly?” “Those things could be arranged. That’s the simplest part of it. But why the secrecy. Sonia? I will have to tell my mother." "You can ask her not to say anything about it until we are gone.” She smiled like a flash of her old self. ”1 will tell my family, too. They will be very happy.” “If only I were sure that you wouldn’t regret It. . . “Even if I do regret it. I’ll know

it was the right thing to do. You are so safe. So big and strong! I wish you’d take me and never, never let me go.” The blood rushed into his face. He leaned over and took her in his arms. “I love you so much, Sonia. But supposing you're sorry tomorrow?” “I expect I will be,” she admitted. “It may be a tiresome experiment.” “It won’t be tiresome so long as ou aren’t unhappy. You know 1 v-ould never consent to this if I didn't think what you say is true. You are the type of girl who gets into trouble if she isn’t married young. You need me, Sonia, and I believe in a little corner of your heart you must love me or you could not have suggested this plan.” “That’s what I think." He smiled. "Otherwise you may be sure all our arguments would not have one particle of weight with me.” She snuggled closer to him. He was the link binding her to sanity, to the wholesome, normal life which was all she felt she would ever desire. “But if you find you can’t love me—can’t love me with all your heart —will you be frank about it?
