ODD FELLOWS TO CONFER DEGREE Second Day of State Grand Encampment. The Odd Fellows' famous "seven-man-stafi"' of Connersville will confer the Golden Rule degree upon a class of candidates tonight at the Medldan Lodge, concluding the second day of the State grand encampment of the order here. Five hundred delegates are attending. The grand lodge, composed of 1,200 delegates representing 900 subordinate lodges and about 90,000 members, will convene today. Joseph G. Long of Logansport, grand master, will be succeeded by Harley F. Hardin of Marion. Long becomes grand representatives. Cyrus Heron ot M uncle was elected grand junior warden of the State order Tuesday, each of the higher offices being filled by advancement from lower ofTices. Karl Lines, retiring grand patriarch, was advanced to the highest jwsltion of grand representative, and Dr. W. A.Chapman of Indianapolis succeeded him. GIVES STEPHENSON PUBUCJMiLAI Reduced County G. 0 P. Majority Greatly, Says Coffin. Publicity given the Stephenson scandal reduced the Marion County Republican majority to one-third of normal. County Chairman George V. Coffin said at a meeting of county officials-elect at the Columbia Club Tuesday night. ‘‘Had It not been for the Stephenson charges, Marion County would have gone Republican by 25,000 to 30,000,” Coffin said. “And I wish to warn you that the Democrats are building a county organization which they hope will function smoothly in 1928.” Coffin urged members of the Legislature to stand for reduction of taxes.
