EUROPE ALSO HIT WIIU MOUNTING VALUE OF FUEL Italy Suffers With Heavy Demand and No Supplies. Bv United Pres* WASHINGTON, Nov. 12.—While the American household provider is keeping one eye on the coal bin and the other on ever-mounting full prices, he may find some consolation in the knowledge that European householders . are doing the same thing. Department of commerce cables from agents abroad today disclosed the European and South American markets were in a bad way. Much of this is due to virtual stoppage of English production because of the strike. Italy seems to be the hardest hit with heavy demands but no supplies. Genoa reports but 10,000 tons of coal on hand and with no prospects of relieving the shortage. Germany Saves Coal Germany seems to be saving coal for home consumption, and is quoting prices only for delivery next April. Importation of American coal through Rotterdam has aided situation there. Coal from the American fields is keeping factories going in France, production in the Belgian fields is reaching a record mark, but the government is taking steps to save most of the fuel for home consumption. England is producing only about 1,000,000 tons a week. $15.25 Ton in Brazil In Brazil the situation is described as “serious.” The Central Railway of Brazil has-been forced to curtail service because of low stocks. What coal is available is quoted at $15.25 a ton. With exports from the United Si ites doubled over last year, api ' iximately 3.500,000 tons of coal are rig shipped -monthly out of this , ■ untry.. “Coal is getting scarce. Demands "e coming in from every market, i ' iblee are coming in for coal at any P' ice, and for every conceivable ' tee. We have closed coal at big ; dvances for the Argentine up to the end of January loading and still the demand is insistent. All opinions s -em (o show that the United Kingdom is out. to finish the strike for good and all, which has left those countries, who were getting down to hare bins, desperate,” one of America's largest coal producers informed tin Commerce Department. NEW COAST ROAD Another link in the stretch of state highway along the Pacific coast has been completed between Oxnard and San Juan Capistrano. This gives motorists another smooth route from Long Beach into Lots Angeles.
