QUAIL FACE DARK DA YS OF HUNTING Open Season Begins in Indiana Wednesday— Ends Dec. 10. With guns well oiled, Hoosier sportsmen were ready today for an early start afield, Wednesday, when the open season on quail hunting in Indiana begins. Because the season on rabbit hunting is practically continuous, attention of the nimrads really centers on the date when the bars are lowered on quail shooting, that sport being the best provided within the Hoosier domain. Reports from various localities show an abundance of the feathered game, due to the miltl winters and favorable summers. Rahbits as usual are plentiful, assuring a well-filled game bag, even if quail are not flushed. In a bulletin issued today by George N. Mannfeld, State superintendent of fish and game, it was pointed out that the open season on quail shooting continues until Dec. 10. The bag limit is fifteen birds a day per person. Not more than forty Jive quail may be possessed by one hunter after three successive days’ shooting. Sportsmen were urged not only to provide themselves with the State hunting licenses, but to obtain permission of the landowner to hunt on his premises. A warning was Issued against carelessness In handling guns, shooting near livestock, climbing over fences and leaving fires that are liable to spread. under instructions from Mannfeld to enforce the hunting laws to the limit, it was asserted. In addition to quail, the open season for trapping such fur-bearing animals as muskrat, oppossum, raccoon and fox, begins Wednesday. A fair amount of fur-bearing animals still inhabit the State, providing both recreation and spending money for the Hoosier farm lad.
