THE WINNERS? NUMBER of interesting A football games are acheduled for Saturday and tie usual guesses are In order as to their outcome. We will endeavor to point out the favorites and tell briefly just why the dopesters are leaning 1 toward one team or another. The intersectional contest at Urbana perhaps will draw the largest crowd in the Mid-West. ILLINOIS is being given the edge by Indianapolis followers of the grid sport, in spite of Pennsylvania’s unbroken string of victories. Although the easterners have defeated Fianklln and Marshall, Swarthmore, Johns Hopkins, Chicago and Williams, those vanquished ones do not look', so formidable. It is believed that Penna is overrated. The game appears more or less of toss-up. MICHIGAN is being made a 2 to 1 favorite over the Navy at AnnapoKs. The Wolverines are thought to luive one of the best aggregations in the country, and the Middles do not seem strong enough to stop them. In an eastern feature TALE is a 10 to 9 choice over the The Cadets always have a hard time at Eli and last year were defeated, 28 to T. It appears to be an even struggle. In spite of Dartmouth’s recent defeats by Yale and Harvard and Brown’s victory over Yale last week, Dartmouth is the 10 to 8 selection over Brown. It Is considered a mpwm-tuck affair. Because of reported Dartmouth injuries we believe that BROWN will win. In another intersectional game WEST VIRGINIA is the slight favorite over Missouri when the westerners perform at Morgantown on Saturday. COLGATE is a big favorite over Michigan Aggies. Nobody seems to give Georgia Tech a chance at NOTRE DAME and the odds are 10 to 4, with some willing to “give” twenty-one points on N. D. NORTHWESTERN is another heavy favorite, but the score is being doped as fairly close. Some are willing to wager that the Purple does not win by twelve points. This comes about because it is thought that the Evanston team will not "step on it’’ with Purdue on the schedule next. Another reason is that the boys are never sure that Pat Page isn’t ready to spring a surprise. OHIO STATE is another 2 to 1 choice. Nobody seems to like Chicago’s chnces and many are predicting that the Buckeyes will win by thirteen points. MINNESOTA is the general selection to defeat Wisconsin. Odds are 10 to 7 and 10 to 8, but there is an undercurrent of sentiment in favor of the Badgers. It is predicted that the score will be close. Some wagers have been made that Minnesota does not win by five points. BUTLER is the choice over Lombard at even money and WABASH is a 10 to 7 favorite over Franklin. Lafayette and WASHINGTON and JEFERSON probably will stage another of their close battles. CORNELL should down Columbia and NEW YORK U. take the measure of Fordham. ' •• • \ It just seems to be hi the Michigan blood to play good football. We notice in one of these "twenty-flve years ago” columns that the Wolverines defeated Buffalo, 128 to 0, in 1801. Notre Dame seems to be Improving as the years roll by. Twen-ty-flve years ago the "Irish” nosed out Beloit, 5 to 4. Tills year It was 77 to 0. City Bowling Gossip
In reviewing results In Capitol No. 1 League it was found that the total pins for the ten teams shooting in this league was 28,654, for a grand team average of 955 pins per game. Shooting of this kind compares favorably with any of the fast loops throughout the country, and no doubt the majority of these teams will bring home some bacon in all tourneys they attend this bowling year. Block’s Optical team of Capitol No. 2 League was the’ only team able to win three jjames In this loop, all other winners drawing the odd game. Facke of the Broad Ripple Park team was the only man to reach the coveted 600, getting games of 224, 193, 191, for 608 pins. The Gears and Dodge were returned winners In their session with the Ewart and Belmont In the Link Belt League, Thursday, at the Illinois alleys. Baker of the Gears being high man with games of 228, 194 and 199, for a total of 621. You have heard of Paul Revere’s midnight ride, but It takes the I. U. Railway League to gain the spotlight In bowling. They report at 8 a. m. and hold their league sessions each Tuesday morning at the Capitol alleys. Etter of the Wright Electrotype was the big gun in that team's triple win over the Press Assistants in the Printing Craft League Thursday, getting a total of 622 on game* of 191, 224 and 207. The Pivot City Inks were also returned three-game winners in the Printing Craft League over the Indianapolis Engraving, while the O'Brien Inks and Indianapolis Star took two out of three from the Allies and Queen City Ink. respectively. Scott of the East End Milk team was responsible for his team’s threegame win over the I. U. Railway team and also carried high total honors in the Universal League with games of 211, 188 and 204. for a total of 608. Eli Lilly were also three-game winners In this league defeating the Indianapolis Terra Cotta tea.m. Has your league Joined organized bowling? In the maze of large scores made the other ,night A1 Rabe’s 668 total with games of 205, 229, and 234 was overlooked. There will be many a night when games of this kind carry off high honors and any bowler knows he must J>e on even to approach a total of this size. Let’s have a record city tourney, boys. There is no conflict with other tournaments, the season is young, and we are all in the proper spirit to want | to bowl.

Butler, Indiana, Purdue, Wabash, Notre Dame, De Pauw, Rose Remain on Home Fields Tomorrow. By William J. Dunn United Press Sports Writer Indiana college grid fans are prepared for a week-end of games which will see all State teams playing within the bounds of Several out-of-State squads will invade Indiana soil Saturday for contests with Hoosier elevens, Among this number being Northwestern and Georgia Tech.
Northwestern, with its eye on the Western Conference championship, will invade Bloomington in an effort to show Indiana that the last quarter rally which netted the Purple three touchdowns and a 20-0 victory over the Crimson two weeks ago was no fluke. The Wildcats are favored to repeat their victory of Oct. 16, although Pat Page has an improved Indiana team to send against them. It is homecoming at Indiana. Southerners Fight South Bend will outdo itself In welcoming the Golden Tornadoes from Georgia Tech. The Southerners twice have invaded Cartier field to meet Notre Dame and their record of sportsmanship and their fighting ability has made them a great, favorite in that section. The Irish are not expected to encounter much difficulty In the Tornadoes, who have not been quite as devastating this year as in former campaigns. Purdue encounters Terre Haute Normal and Coach Jimmy Phelan is planning on allowing his second string to show their worth, as the Boilermakers are unanimous favorites to win easily. Wabash will entertain Bradley Tech of Peoria, 111., and the Little Giants probably will enter the game on even terms. The Peoria eleven Is somewhat of a stranger In Indiana, but the fact that it has remained undefeated since 1924 makes Saturday’s fray a toss-up. It is homecoming at Wabash. Lombard vs. Bulldogs Butler will play host to Lombard of Galesburg. 111., and the Bulldogs are expected to have more points to count when the final gun barks. De Pauw meets Franklin in Qreencastle and the Tigers are expected to repeat their victory of last Saturday. Franklin Is strong, however, and may spring a surprise despite the fact they lost a 7-0 decision to Butler before the Bulldogs fell, 21-10 before De Pauw. Eastern Illinois Normal will oppose Rose Poly at Terre Haute and It looks like another defeat fgr the Engineers. Indiana Central will be the favorlts when It invades Manchester. Evansville and Hanover will clash at Evansville and the tefems look evenly matched. 1 2 MATCHES Amateur Boxers Busy at I. A. C. Gym Tonight. SEVERAL FEATURE CONTESTS Three Big Ten and Three Intersectional Frays Interest Middle West.. Bv United Brest CHICAGO, Oct. 29.—Two important East-West football games, one North-South battle and tflree contests which bear on the Big Ten championship are on Saturday’s schedule. Michigan, which ranks with Ohio State and Notre Dame as one of the three strong teams in the Middle West, meets the Navy at Baltimore. Last year, at Ann Arbor, Michigan won a 64-to-0 victory over the Middies. This year’s Michigan team boasts a powerful line, while the whole Navy team Is much stronger than the one which came West last season. Toss-Up at Illinois At Champaign, Pennsylvania, one of the strong eastern teams, faces Illinois. Last year, at Philadelphia, with the aid of Red Grange, Illinois soundly trounced the Red and Blue. This year Grange is missing, and the Pennsylvania team looks to have an even chance with the IllinL At South Bend Coach Knute Rockne will try to drive hi3 team through the Golden Tornado from Georgia Tech. At Chicago the highly touted Freddie Grim of Ohio State will try to duplicate his ground-gaining feats of the early season. The Ohio team is a top-heavy favorite over the Chicago Maroons. Gophers vs. Badgers The most important Big Ten, game of the day is the Wlsconsin-Minne-sota contest. Minnesota has by far the superior offensive, while Wisconsin has the better defense. The Gophers appear to have drive, and Coach "Ix>c” Spears' shift attack looks stronger than the Badgers. However, Wisconsin has been developing slowly and may show great improvement. At Bloomington, Ind., Northwestern, which fought Notre Dame on even terms throughout last Saturday’s game, and lost in the final quarter, 6-0, will play the second of Its games with Indiana.
