in a two-fold political drama here. The man is Senator James A. Reed, Democrat, of Missouri. On one side, this 64-ycar-old man Is Senator Reed, chairman of the senatorial Investigation committee, who is probing into the political situation in Indiana; on the other he is “Jim” Reed, home from Washington to campaign for his party in Missouri. When Reed announced Monday that he was going to have another
session of the Indiana political hearing at the Federal building here Thursday, those interested in the Indiana situation wondered why St. Louis was selected. But politicians of Missouri knew why. It was because Jim Reed wanted to carry on his vigorous Investigation of Indiana and at the same time help out Representative Harry B. Hawes who is the Democratic nominee for Senator from Missouri. His program is a busy one.
THE INDIANAPOLIS- TIMES
Early today he had conferences scheduled with a number of persons Interested In the Indiana primaries situation —a situation which has developed around Ku-Klux Klan activities. Later his day was turned over to conferences with Missouri political leaders and then he will speak tonight In behalf of Hawes. He spoke Tuesday night for Hawes, dashing from one conference with friends from Indiana and returning after the
speech to discuss the Indiaan probe with his secretary. After tonight’s speech he plans to rest in preparation for vigorous cross examination of witnesses in the Federal Bldg. Thursday. Despite his vigorous program and his sixty-four years, Reed continues to be the dynamic Senator that Missourians have known through his years of public service. Tuesday night his voice bpomed through the
Coliseum as he delivered his political oration. After the speech he was questioned concerning his fitness; “X am not tired. I am doing my duty and I enjoy it.” PETER I/I.
