THREE KILLED IN HAMMOND CRASH Interurban Hits Auto at Unguarded Crossing. Bu l nilrd Pirns HAMMOND, Ind., Oct. 16 —Hammond police and traction authorities Joined in the investigation today into the deaths of three men, killed when their auto was struck by a South Shore interurban at an unguarded crossing here. Julius Kulwich, 19, and Joe Polichnoski, 26, both of Hammond, were killed instantly and Adrew Jesuwik, 17, was fatally injured. Their car was demolished. Both Kulwich and Poliehnoski were cut to pieces. Jesuwik’s skull was crushed and he died in the hospital a short time later. Mitchell Brooks, 521 S. Bosart Ave., collector for the Remedial Loan Company, said he had turned in his collections for the day at the office, 501 Peoples Bank Bldg., and had started home. Two men at Keystone Ave. and Alllsonville Rd., with their , auto apparently stalled, him asking help. One thrust a gun at him and the other took between $8 and $lO of his money and a $2 ring. Then they left in their machine. A pickpocket slipped $45 from her purse as she was on her way to the county treasurer's office to pay her taxes, Mrs. Nancy J. Jenkins, 48 N. Garfield Ave., said. Mrs. R. E. Kemp, 6.16 Continental Bank Bldg., reported the theft of her purse, SENATOR ROBINSON SPEAKER IN STATE Will Deliver Two Addresses in Indiana Next Week. United States Senator Joseph T. Robinson, of Arkansas, Democratic leader in the United States Senate, will deliver two political addresses in Indiana next week. State Chairman R. Earl Peters, announced here today. Senator Robinson will speak at Kendallville Friday night, Oct. 22. He will deliver an address at Hammond Saturday night, Oct. 23. RobI inson will be preceded by the blind former United States Senator Thomas P. Gore, of Oklahoma. Gore will speak at Eluffton Wednesday night, Oct. 20, and at Knightstown, I Thursday night, Oct. 21. The Democratic leader in the ■ House of Representatives. Congressman Finis J. Garrett, of Tennessee, came to Indiana this week-end for two addresses. He spoke at Decatur last night and will speak here tonight. ANTI - BORER MACHINE Device Aimed at Corn Pest Will Be Demonstrated Tuesday. New farm machinery designed to combat the European corn borer will be demonstrated on the Erich farm, a mile south of the town of St. Joe. in De Kalh County, next Tuesday afternoon, It was announced today by State Entomologist Frank N. Wallace, who heads the staff of State and Federal workers seeking to prevent further spread of the pest. Federal officials fighting the borer have proved by experiments that one of tile most successful methods is to remove the corn refuse, and have advised burning all stalks. Recently plow manufacturers designed anew plow which, it is claimed, will turn under all stalks. If this is the case, then it will not only be more economical to plow than burn, but likewise soil fertility will be maintained from this refuse.

Homer Elliott, former United States district attorney for Indiana, I has accepted appointment as special prosecutor at the murder trial of Ralph Dee, charged with ’first degree murder of Abner Peek, Speedway City grocer, slain during a hold-up in July, 1924. The trial is scheduled to open in the Johnson Circuit Court at Franklin Monday morning. The case was taken from Marion County on a change of venue. Prosecutor William H. Remy anI nounoed he would be unable to take part in the prosecution as he is enj giiged with the special grand jury | investigation of the Adams political I corruption charges. It was said that deputies of the prosecutor probably would assist Mr. Elliott. LANIER HOUSE CHARGE An admission charge of 25 rents, it was announced today by State Conservation Director Richard Lieber, yill be assessed all visitors at the Lanier home at Madison, recently dedicated as a State shrine to J. F. D. Lanier, the State’s chief financial sponsor during the Civil War. The charge, he said, will not apply to children under 12 years of age, if accompanied by adults.
