King of the Air Loses
W'liun a champion goes out of his class he usually loses. And eagles are no exception. A huge golden eagle attacked the airplane of Joe Skidmore, Laguna Beach (Cal.) aviator, and after Skidmore had dodged the bird for several minutes through a rapid succession of nose dives and tail spins, the eagle broke its neck against a strut. Skidmore (at the left) is shown with his two passengers exhibiting the luekless bird.

Cards Will Win Says Hendricks
By Jack Hendricks, Manager of the Cincinnati Reds. (Written for the United Press) NEW YORK, Oct. 2.—1 think that the St. Louis Cardinals will win the world series, not because I am a National League manager, but because I think they are a great ball club. Not because I am a Nations 1 Leaguer do I pick the Cardinals to win, but because they have a great advantage behind the bat in Bob O'Farrell, the greatest catcher in baseball. And they have more good pitchers than the Yankees have. We all have to figure the Babe, but the Babe has always been a big bust in a world series, and ihero is no xvay to figure in this series that he will be a big hero. I look for the Cardinals to win, almost in straight games, because they have the inspiration of tragedy hanging over their shoulders because of the death of the mother of their manager. I think the batteries will be Pennock and Collins and Alexander and O’Farrell.
