REMYMAYAIOIN INVESMION OF CITY POLICEMEN / ' f \ Says He’ll See Ward and Offer Cooperation in U. S. Probe. Prosecutor William H. Remy may take part in the investigation Os the Indianapolis police force ordered by Federal Judge Robert C. Balteell, Wednesday, he indicated today. Remy, ‘Who last spring during the primary campaign charged that the police department is controlled by politicians in a public address, said he wouljcl confer with United States Attorney Albert Ward in regard to the latest investigation. The investigation was ordered by Baltzell when John Cox, 730% Ft. Wayne Ave., said that six policemen often came to his place to drinkhome brew beer, which he gave them for "protection.” To See Ward “I shall get in touch with Ward as soon as possible,". Remy said “and offer to cooperate, taking it for granted that Ward will do his duty. I knew such things as this were going on and said so repeatedly.” Ward, however, when asked what do on the Investigation to said: “Nothing at all. I am on other'matters.” Later he said that the investlga tion would be • conducted in the regular manner and probably sub minted to the Federal grand jury, if the facts warrant it. He indicated there will be no special session of the grand jury to probe'the matter. It was learned that Police Chief “Claude F. Johnson has teen conducting rt probe of the Cox story since it was before the Federal grand jury last week. Policemen named by Cox denied drinking in the place and taking women there. Phipps of Colorado, chairman of the Republican national congressional committee, declared today that a sweeping Republican victory ip in prospect in Indiana at the November election. “Our organization is perfect and we have only to feMr aoathy among the voters, due to the era of prosperity in Indiana.” Watson said. Sept. 23.—The Republican national Congressional committee is confident of a sweeping victory throughout the United States at the November elections and little financial outlay will be made in campaigns, Senator L. C. Phipps of Colorado said today. Phipps, chairman of the committee, left today for New York to confer with eastern Republican leaders. Following the New York conference, he will make a tour of the country, assisting in organization work. "The campaign program will be carried through on a basis of strictest economy,” he said.
