Control of Congress is the stake, Democrats are launching a terrific drive from Washington to elect majority membership in the Senate and the House of Representatives and Senator Teter Goelet’Gerry of Rhode Island, chairman of the Democratic senatorial committee, and Representative William Oldfield of Arkansas, chairman of the congressional committee; each predict victory. Temporary quarters were opened across the street and* “business as usual” was the spirit on Monday, according to Steele. Only funds necessary for immediate needs were withdrawn and deposits were in excess of the withdrawals, he stated.
