what we already have against us.” They contented themselves by sticking the baby in the legs with pins while they waited for Mrs. Bowman to prepare the mail. After eating, the men remarked it tasted “better than prison grub.” After ransacking the Bowman homo one man went next dooi\ to the home of Mrs. Claude Moss, 3703 W. Twi.fth St., the other half of the same house, and searched for valuables. No one was at home and nothing was taken. Leaving the hojiso, the men told Mrs. Bowman if she made any attempt to call to a man, who was working in a field a block away they would come back and kill her baby. She remained in the house until Mrs. Moss and her husband came home. Mrs. Moss then walked a mile to a phone and called police. Lieutenant Winkler and squad scoured the entire neighborhood. At one time they saw the men at a distance, but they escaped in a woods. Mrs. Bowman said it was the second time she had been compelled by men to cook meals for them. Two years ago two negroes forced their way into her kitchen. After an attempted attack they took charge of the kitchen, helping themselves to food and taking some of her husband’s clothes.
