AND MORE RAIN • IS YETTO GOME September Already Ahead of Normal for Month. "With September only on Its third flay, rainfall in Indianapolis has exceeded the normal for the month by .10 of an inch, the United States Weather Bureau reported today. And more rains are in prospect tonight and Saturday. Tne fall for the twenty-four hours ending this morning was .05 of an Inch, making the total rain for the month 3.15 inches, while normal for the month Is 3.05. Thursday the southern part of the State, which Wednesday night's downpour missed, got its rain. Columbus reported a cloudourstr 3.06 inches falling, while Terre Haute had 1.10, Vincennes 1.53 and Seymour 1.43. Only tile extreme northern part of the State now has failed to have heavy rain. Small streams have been brought out of their banks.

RITES FOR B. M. WELLER Services Saturday for Ex-OfficlaJ of Nordyke & Marmon. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday for Byron M. Weller, 47, of 138 W. Twelfth St., at the J.' W. Patterson funeral home, 1324 N. Illinois St. Burial will be in Crown Hill cemetery. Two years ago Mr. Weller retired as superintendent of the Nordyke & Marmon Corporation, floor mill de ; partment, because of ill health. He Wiis a member of the Odd Fellows and the Elks. 20 INDICTED FOR MURDER IN YEAR And Three Receive Death Penalty in County. For the fiscal year from Sept. 1, 1925, to Sept. 1, 1926, -twenty indictments for first degree murder were returned in Criminal Court, by the county grand jury. Prosecutor William H. Remy announced today. Os this number, three defendants received the death penalty. Edward Stewart, 39, Negro, charged with clubbing to death, Ralph Cunningham, was electrocuted at Indiana State Prison, Jan. 16. The other two sentenced to capital punishment are Roosevelt Hicks, 42, Negro, who killed his wife, and Wallace McCutcheon, 17, Negro, who fatally shot John Ward. Both are held at Indiana State Prison, having been granted appeals to the State Supreme Court. Six defendants were given l!f>i sentences and two were acquitted. The remainder either were sentenced for manslaughter or have not yet been tried, said Remy.

REPAIR OF WOOD STREETSPLANNED City May Use Gas Tax Money, for Resurfacing. Immediate resurfacing of wooden block streets, which have a tendency to float away in a heavy' downpour today is sought by City Engineer George G. Schmidt. City council will receive an ordinance to appropriate the city's share of the State gasoline tax, amounting to nearly 185,000, for replacing the wood paving. A few days ago the park jaoard tossed SB,OOO on the altar of wood paving, which promptly floated away in the heavy downpour. Work on Meridian St. and College Ave. north of Fail Creek will be hastened, to care for traffic to the Indiana State fair. All wooden block streets will be covered either with tar treatment or a complete asphalt top. The English language is spoken by more than 150,000,000 people.
