MO ACCIDENTS ► PROVE FATAL TO THREEJICHMS Relatives Plan Burial—Girl, 2, Playing With Brother, Killed. While police busied themselves'today investigating three fatal automobile accidents, two of which occurred late Thursday, relatives of the victims were making funeral arrangements. Today’s casualty list included eight persons injured. The dead: Mrs. Mayme B. McCurdy, 23, of 269 Parkview Ave. Helen Schaedel, 2, of 1340 Lee St. George Scholtz, 45, of 1641 Goodlet Ave. Mrs. McCurdy , died Thursday night at city hospital, after being struck at Maryland and Missouri Sts. by a. car driven by Sergt. Albert Wells of Ft. Benjamin Harrison. Witnesses said Wells’ car skidded eighty-tlve feet after striking Mrs. McCurdy. Wells was charged with assault and battery and improper driving. Funeral services will be held Monday. She was the wife of Herbert McCurdy and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Joe. 1034 N. Mount St., at whose home rites will be held. Bellowing inquest today Coroner aul F. Robinson advised charges gainst Wells be changed to "involuntary manslaughter." He was turned over to Lieut. W. D. Shellene, provost' marshal at Ft. Benjamin Harrison, for trial. Mother Near Scene The Schaedel girl was killed' when 6he hopped into the path of an automobile being backed across an alley by David Adeff, Howard St. She was accompanied by her brother Edward. 9, whom she was trying to beat home. Screaming as a wheel passed over the child's body, her mother, Mrs. Beulah Schaedel, was attracted to the scene. The child died shortly after her arrival at city hospital. Adeff was charged with involuntary manslaughter. Besides the mother and brother, the Schaedel girl is survived by the father, Emil Francis Schaedel; another brother, Emil Franci Jr., 4, and a sister, Josephine Irene, 9-months-old. Scholtz died at city hospital of injuries suffered Wednesday nigh,t when struck by a “hit-and-run” motorist on the Speedway Rd., near Winfield Ave. Police have no clew to the identity of the driver. Services will be held Saturday afternoon at the residence of Henry Schlotz, a brother, three miles west of the city, on the W. Tenth St. road. Bur ial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Car Overturns Three women, two from Indianapolis, were in Methodist Hospital from serious injuries re Friday night when their car overturned west of Greenfield Mrs. Charles Vanasdel, 1331 N. Kealing Ave., the driver, suffered internal injuries. Mrs. Stella Williarrrrr 834 Drexel Ave., received a broken leg and her sister, Mrs. W. D. Sweesy, Mason City, la., was hurt about the head. * RATE CONFAB FRIDAY Furniture Schedule Equalization Chamber Session Topic. More than 100 Indiana furniture manufacturers will attend a State Chamber of Commerce conference at the Chamber headquarters, Board of Trade Bldg., next Friday to discuss the equalization of freight rates ordered by the Interstate commerce commission. General investigation of furniture rates was ordered. The State Chamber will represent the interests of Indiana manufacturers at the hearing, according to W. H. Arnett, Chamber secretary. R. B. Coapstick, traffic manager, is planning the conference. KNIGHTS FIELD DAY Knight Templar commanderies of Indiana and the counties surrounding the State will attend a field day at Washington, Ind., Sept. 26. The event is sponsored by the Washington commandery in honor of Adrian Hamersly, grand recorder f the grand encampment, a member f the Washington commandery. There will be drill competition for which a loving cup is to be awarded. GIVE BENEFIT CARMVAI, Crooked Creek Community Club will hold a benefit carnival at the Washington Township school, FiftyEighth St. and Michigan Rd., tonight and Saturday. Supper will be served and a program given. Funds will be used for equipment of the new school.
