LA FOLLETTE-ISM, FACES TBT IN SEPTEMBER VOTE If "Blaine Defeats Lenroot, Organization Will Be Stronger Than Ever. By Paul R. Mallon, United Press Staff Correspondent WASHINGTON, Aug. 11.—Politicians here today turned their attention to the Wisconsin primary—bitterest of all the thirty-eight primaries of the year. There the Republicans on Sept. 7 will determine the future status of the pld La Follette organization, which for years has been a source of difficulties for the national Republican organization difficulties which in 1924 caused the late Senator Robert M. La Follette, Sr., to bolt in an independent movement for the presidency. Lenroot vs. Blaine Coolidge adherents are pitted against La Follette adherents in the race between Senator Irvin Lenroot and Gov. James G. Blaine for the Republican senatorial nomination, which is virtually equivalent to election. Lenroot, backed by the Coolidge group, is being vigorously fought by Senator Robert La Follette, Jr., who is campaigning the State in behalf of Blaine. Lenroot is a dry, favoring a State rcferendumi and Blaine a wet, who is making no effort to develop prohibition as an issue in the campaign. World Court An Issue Lenroot fostered the resolution of American adherence to the World Court for the administration and La Follette is making this one of the important issues. He is also opposing Lenroot on farm relief and on the ground that he voted to seat Senator Newberry (Rep.), Michigan, after it had been shown Newberry spent $195,000 in his primary campaign. If Lenroot is ' nominated, politicians here will interpret the result as a break in the long-standing La Follette control of the State. If La Follette succeeds in putting Blaine over, it will be considered that his father’s organization, which he is now leading, must be reckoned with by the national organization as stronger than before. .. State Ticket, Too Involved in the contest is a race on the State ticket which may mean as much to the La Follette organization as does the Senate seat. Herman L. Ekern, running on the La Fol-lette-Blaine ticket for Governor, is being strongly opposed Fred Zimmerman, anti-La Follette candidate. Should La Follette lose the State ticket, his organization would be seriously hampered in carrying out itb plans- even though Blaine wins the Senate seat. If you can’t eat without suffering, if you are trying to do the day’s work while tortured by pain and indigestion, you will be glad to read how Mrs. Mike Hennis, Fortvllle, Ind., overcame this dreadful trouble. She writes: 4 “I had severe stomach and bowel trouble for over six years. Had dizzy spells and at times would have fallen if I had not had something to hold to. Was awfully nervous, had gas on my stomach most all the - time, severe cramps and agonizing pains. I felt like I was raw from the bottom of my stomach clear up to ipy throat, and I had to take soda all the time. My first and only relief came from Viuna. After the second dose I co'tild feel it was helping me. After the second- bottle all the gas, etc., disappeared for good, and now I can ea’T'anything without one bit of fear. My appetite is good, my nervousness gone, v>d I sleep lik a baby at night. Until I took Viuga I had never weighed over 110 pounds in my life, and I weigh 114 pounds, and am gaining every day.” Vtnna acts promptly bn slnggto bowels, lazy liver and weak kidneys. W. C. T. U. TO GET BUT EVERY DRY -VOTE IN NATION Wet Referendums to 6$ Ignored, President Announces. Bv United Press CHICAGO, Aug. 11.—A drive to get every available dry vote to the polls at the fall elections to defeat efforts by wets to modify the Volstead act was announced here today by Mj-s£ Ella A. Boole, national president of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union. The dry organization, Mrs. Boole said, will concentrate on getting its followers to oppose all candidates for the Senate and House who have wet leanings. She said the drys would ignore the referendum to be held in New York and Illinois. Conference Held ‘The plans of the W. C. T. U.,” Mrs. Boole announced, ‘‘comprise the greatest dry activity by women of the country ever seen, not even excepting the crusading days preceding adopticn of the Eighteenth Amendment and the Volstead act.” The decision to leave no stone unturned in the drive to defeat wet efforts against the Volstead aFt was reached at a conference here of national officers and State presidents of the temperance organization. Mrs. Boole pointed out to those attending the meeting that in the past 60 per cent of the dry vote have refrained from registering or voting. House to House Canvas "The big thunderbolt the W. C. T. U. can forge against a wet revolution,” she declared, ‘‘is to Insure that every dry voter goes to the polls and votes for a dry candidate in November.” / Plans for getting out the dry vote call for house to house canvasses and frequent organization meetings at various churches where Mrs. Boole believes hundreds of dry votes can be obtained. BOOZE TAX ABOLISHED Bn United Press ATHENS, Aug. 11.—Acceding to demands voiced in a public mass meeting, the government has abolished taxation on vessels used in lwme distillation of liquors.
