Collins, Jr., assistant curator of er.nnology of the Smithsonian Institution, just returned from ah exploration of ancient mounds in Louisiana and Texas, revealed today. High Mound Culture From the evidence gathered, the people had attained a comparatively high "mound culture,” and their habits and customs and dress were similar to the Moundbuilders of Ohio. The people followed the ancient Louisiana tribe were of much lower culture and nibals, Collins said. It is possible that the moundbiulders were eaten by the succeeding tribe, he declared. The ornaments that adorned flappers in this age, were large bone hair pins, shell beads and necklaces of bear teeth, all brilliantly colored. Saucer-like ear rings nearly four inches in circumference, made of stone and plated with copper and weighing almost a pound each were uncovered. The copper came from the Great Lakes district, Collins said, indicating that extensive trade relations were carried ,on between the North and the South. Stone Implements The tribe used stone implements, caught fish with bone fishhooks, and used highly decorated pottery. An unusual burial ceremony was practiced, according to Collins.
