INQUIRY BARES POWERS BEHIND CHICAGO THRONE Crowe-Barrett G. 0. P. and Brennan Democrats Control City and County. By N. D. Cochran, Times Stnft Corresoondent J CHICAGO. Aup. 4.—ln Chicago as In most big cities there is an #timate relation between business, crime and politics. While the Reed senatorial committee is showing up the relation between politics and public utilities, a special grand jury is investigating crime and ballot-box stuffing. The big contributors to the Smith senatorial campaign fund and the campaign for county offices of the Crowe-Barrett Republican organizatibn were representatives of big business. Every business that can be affected by city, county and State officials has to pay a politics tax to the organizations controlling the public Offices. Often they do as Sam Insull admits he did—contribute to all of the contending factions. No*'More Loyalty Contributions are rarely If ever made because of mere loyalty to a party. Insull's consU-ibu-Rions were made to Smith otio is Republican and dry as well as to Brennan who is Democratic and wet. Also to the Crowe Barrett organization which is Republican and wet. Working together harmoniously the Crowe-Barrett Republican organization and the Brennan Democratic organization control both the city and county administrations. This includes the city council of Chicago, the board of commissioners of Cook county, the police department, the sheriff’s office, the State's attorney's office, and all of the local taxing power from assessor to the hoard of review. Even the judges
HER ANKLES WERE SWOLLEN TWICE ‘ THE NORMAL SIZE Had Kidney and Rheu-s matic Trouble; Lpcal Lady Says Konjola Made Her Completely Well.
"I could hardly walk before I got Konjola, but now my health troubles are all ended, and.l don't mind telling anyone that this medicine has made me completely well," said Mrs. Dollie Chambers, popular Indi- . anapolis lady, living at 933 Chad-

MRS. DOLLIE CHAMBERS ■wick Street, this city, while talking with The Konjola at Hook's drug store, Pennsylvania and Market Streets, Indianapolis, where large crowds are calling throughout each day to find out for themselves about this surprising new medicine. "About four years ago I found out that I had rheumatism and kidney trouble," said Mrs. Chambers. "My suffering seemed to get worse each year, and, like a great many-other people, I tried first one kind of treatment and then another. I got some relief by rubbing with liniments and massaging, bu*t the rheumatic poison ■till remained in my system. I took ft lot of medicines that only upset my stomach, and so I suffered that much worse. Both of my ankles were swollen over twice their natural size. I had to buy my shoes several sizes too large, and It was so Pbard for me to walk that I very seldom went anywhere, and I missed church on many Sundays Just because it was Impossible to get out of the house. My toes would get stiff and rigid? and the awful pains would 6hoot from my hips down to my feet''. My knees were swollen and stiff, and I was in such miserable suffering that many times I had to cry aloud with pain. My stomach was affected so that my food would not digest,., and constipation had a very strong'hold on me. for I was in the habit of taking strong laxatives all the time. I was also subject to rising many times during the night, because of the weak condition of my kidneys, and during the day I had diz2y, light-headed feelings so that I would have to get hold of something to keep from falling. "I decided to try Konjola, because it seemed like people all over the city were praising it, but I admit that I come to believe no medicine would help me. Well, this Konjola started my food to digesting right before the third day, and it seemed to cleanse my whole system, so the constipation ended,"and I didn't have the dizzy spells or faint feelings that used to come over me every day. The swelling began to leave my ankles and knees and now these parts are normal as they should be. My limbs are free of all pain and misery, and I know I never felt better at any time in my life before. Yes, I will tell anyone that Konjola has made me well in every way, and I never thought any medicine would completely relieve my suffering, so of kourse, it is a real pleasure to inorse this new Konjola.” The Konjola Man is at Hook's drug store, Pennsylvania and Market Streets, Indianapolis, where he is daily meeting the local publio and Introducing and explaining the merits of this remedy.—Advertisement. 1
What Hurricane Did at Tampa
Notice how the steel framework of tills half-finished building is bent out of plumb? The hurricane that swept the Florida coast recently did it. This building is In Tampa, and was perfectly straight before the wind hit it.
of the various courts are known as Crowe-Barrett judges, Brennan judges or peneen-Lundin Judges. There are some good Judges and some bad ones, but all of them have to be factional politicians or they can't be nominated. Unless they are nominated they can't be elected. Judge Robert Crowe is head of the Crowe-Barrett organization and is also States attorney. He has about fifty lawyers as assistants and also his own detective force. Controls Indictments He practically controls all grand Jury Indictments and conducts all criminal trials not Federal in their nature. The Brennan Democratic organization controls the mayor's office and the police force. Brennan selected Mayor Dever’s secretary to represent the organization. Crowe, Barrett and Brennan contral the tax board of review, tue board of county commissioners and the sanitary district trustees. The findings of the board of review are final as to the valuation of property for taxation. Can Lower Taxes Large taxpayers consider that board as very important as it can raise or lower the amount of taxes they pay. If they want to get tax favors they can’t well refuse to contribute to the campaign funds of the that control the assessors and the boanj of review. Probably it Is a business necessity for operators of public utilities to contribute liberally to both the Republican and Democratic organizations. Probably it is also a business necessity for bootleggers and all other law violators- of the underworld to contribute liberally to the political organizations wnlch control the police force, the sheriff’s office and the State's attorney’s office. Nobody believes that half the truth has'been told about all campaign contributions for the Illinois primary and where the money came from. The public .utilities and some big business men got Into the limelight but the crimnal uderworld was kept under cover. REALTORS^MAKE PLANS Indiana Body to Have Annual Convention at Ft. Wayne.
