In the Cotton Market
(By Thomson A McKinnon) NEW YORK. July 31.—The leature of the week's news in cotton has been the long-delayed selling of the remnant of last year s crop b.v the Cooperative Societies. This has put a strain upon the contract markets, which they have carried well. In our opinion, the weather for the week has been generally favorable, though today's prediction of showers over the belt is cause for some alarm. The year in cotton closes today and official figures for the carry over and consumption are expected next week. They can be forecasted witli approximate certainty and therefore will carry little speculative value. The market |s in a trading range at present and offers a good field for profits on cotton either well bought or sold. Should firii rs cross 18 cents for December, anew Hi.ving movement would Probably follow and much higher prices lie established. NEtV ORLEANS High. Low. Close.
