APPOINTMENTS OF REPUBLICAN BODY •TO NAVE EFFECT Central Committee’s Work May Bring Decision in Governorship Race. The bfittle of early candidates for the Republican gubernatorial nomination to control a State headquar tens organization will come to a decision at a meeting of the G. O. P. State central committee Tuesday at the Severin. * Only two of nine J>ureau heads to direct various activities of the senatorial and State campaigns this fall have been selected. Politicians deem it significant that the two appointed are men who may be counted upon to back State Chairman Clyde A. Walb for. the gubernatorial honor. They are Frank E. Rozelle of Lagrange, where Walb lives, speakers’ bureau head, and John Wright, Indianapolis, recommended by George V. Coffin. Marion County boss, who has made a political alliance with Walb, head of the first voters’ bureau. | Walb Has Authority Walb, under a strict interpretation of party rules, may appoint all bureau heads. This authority was emphasized at a reorganization meeting of the central committee following the primary election. However, it is believed that Walb will endeavor at least to go through the motions of consulting the committee in regard to appointments. Politicians think there is little doubt that Walb will withdraw his opposition to continuance of Mrs. Vivian T. Wheatcraft as director of women's activities. However, there arg signs of a movement to curtil the budget and consequently the program of that division. The opinion agreed upon at a meeting of State candidates at the Columbia' Clut a few weeks ago to the effect that there be no separate women's division may be considered. Publicity Is Important The publicity bureau is considered ohe of the most important posts, inasmuch as the man in charge will allot in many instances credit for the maneuverings of the campaign to certain individuals the prominence or lack of prominence in publicity of certain politicians will have an effect upon the Governorship derby in 1928. L. V. Schneider? who held this position in 1924, is pot in Indianapolis and a Successor probably will be chosen. Whether “Major Ed Jackson’’ (the words of the Official directory) will continue as head of the veterans’ bureau was considered uncertain. Governor Jackson, it is believed, will he used on the oratorical firing line to produce the data which he says shows the State has had an economical administration. A position that will require the balancing ability of a tight rope walker is that of head of the agricultural bureau. In appealing to the farmers for votes, ' the person In charge must reconcile the opposing views of President Coolidge and the Indianh, delegation In Congress on the farm relief problem. Elmer fc.
