LANTERN THEFTS ' ENDANGER LIVES Road Body Asks Public to .Help Prevent Loss. So frequent have become the thefts of red lanterns used by the State highway commission to warn motorists of bad spots in the roads that the commission today made a direct appeal to the public to desist. Hundreds of the lanterns are stolen each year, the commission reports, with the result that motoring hazards are increased in proportion, not to mention the property loss. Recently a highway workman on State Rd. '22, placed nine red lanterns, only to return the following morning and And but two.' Highway forces haye been instructed to keep a sharp watch for the thieves and the public is asked to cooperate in the interest of safety. ADAIR HEARING SET State C. of C.s Demand on License to Come Up Aug. 9. State m Securities Commissioner David H. Jennings has fixed Aug. 9 as date for formal hearing on the State chamber of commerce demand that license of the Adair Realty and Trust Company of Atlanta, Ga., to sell securities in Indiana, be permanently revoked. Following the filing of charges of misrepresentation about a month ago by the State Chamber, Jennings suspended the Adair license indefinitely. He then made a thorough study of the Adair investments In Georgia and Florida and is filing a detailed report of his findings with Secretary of State Frederick E. Schortemeier, head of the securities commission.

GOVERNOR STARTS TOUR Chief Executive and Family City Tonight for Chicago. Governor Jackson and family were to leave today for Chicago, where this evening they are to join Robert E. Hicks and family on an extended tour of the West. Jackson is going primarily to attend- the annual Governors’ conference at Cheyenne, Wyo., which begins Thursday. • During the conference, the Governors will be taken on a four-day tour of Yellowstone National Park. The Jackson party then will visit several points of interest in the West, including Salt Lake City and Colorado Springs. Jackson will return to his office about Aug. 10. MURDER TRIAL MONDAY Special Venire Ordered for Case of Alonzo Raker in Criminal Court. Special Judge Frank A. Symnies Thursday ordered that* a special venire of fifty names of men be drawn as prospective jurors to sit in the trial of Alonzo Raker alias John Cooper, who will be tried Monday on charge of murder. Baker ia alleged to have .murdered Aaron Jordan as the outcome of an argument on Jan. 11. 1926. BONDSMEN ARE SUED Seven Persons Named in Suits to j Obtain Judgment. Mary Rapia, Clarence Thomas.
