fENPAVEINf IS WEEK ON STATEROAD 43 Report Excellent Progress in Improvements in Highway System. New pavement was opened this week on State Rd. 46 (Lincoln Highway) between Churubusco and Merriam and excellent progress is being made on many paving projects at various points in the State highway system, it was announced today, in the commission's weekly traffic bulletin. Long detours also have been removed on Rd. .44, between Lebanon and Frankfort, where the State is building penetration top pavement, as this construction has progressed to the point for applying the tar. Short detours, changing daily, will be in force on this project while the tar treatment is applied. Attention was called to a two-mile detour in force on No. 4 at Busseron Creek, east of Sullivan, to permit surfacing of anew grade across the river bottoms. This road will be open to traffic about Aug. 15. Surface conditions en highways ting from Indianapolis: 1 (New Albany. Indianapolis. South Michigan line)—Watch for repair gangs working between Broad Ripple and Carmel. Paving between Plymouth and Peru, with separate detours marked for north and south traffic between Rochester and Plymouth. (Traffic go to Logansport to connect with No. 15. an unpaved route, by way of Culver, or take the RochesterLogansport road t 6 Rochester, but should bear in mind that No. 15 will be closed goon at a point some eight miles south of Logansport to permit construction.) Detour from two miles north of Edinburg to Franklin account of paving being only fair. No. 3 (Richmond. Indianapolis. Terre Haute)—Due to bridge construction, traffic is using traction company bridge at Hiser’s Station, ten miles west of Richmond. Watchman at east end of bridge handles traffic by stop-and-go signals. Detour B,t. Stilesville, via Greencastle to Manhattan. account of building railroad overhead at Putnamyill6. Traffic from No. 32 (south) will go to Greencastle and take marked detour for Terre Haute. Northbound traffic on 32 for Terre Haute will also detour at Greencastle. Drive slowlv over temporary bridge at Pennsylvania crossing east of Brazil. No. 0 (Madison. Greensburg, Indianapolis, Lafayette, Oxford)—eDtour marked at four miles north of Lebanon. Short detour two and one-half miles northwest of Thomtown. Closed for culvert construction at nine miles north of Madison; detour marked. No. 12 (Vincennes. Spencer, Indianapolis) —Drive carefully at approaches to temporary bridge at two miles north of Gosport. No. 15 (Indianapolis. Logansport. Winamac. Knox. Plymouth, La Porte)—tinder construction from La Porte to Kingsbury; detour marked. Account of construction, short detour at four miles south of Kirklin until Aug. 15. No. 22 (English, Paoli, Bedford. Bloomington, Martinsville, Indianapolis)—Closed between Martinsville and Bloomington for paving. Through traffic between Martinsville and Bloomington use Nos. 12 and 32. Between Paoli and junction with No. 16 at. White Sulphur/ road is under construction most of way. Between Paoli and English traffic take eountv stone road either by way of Valeene and Marengo or via Young’s Creek and Fargo. (Both detours are poor.) Avoid Bouth of Gr&ntsburg. as there are no surface detour roads. No. 31 (Montezuma. Rockville, Danville. Tndlanapolis)—Two bridge runarounds marked at bridge construction about four miles east of Bainbridge.
