AUTOMOBILES CUT JURIST REVENUE, RAILROADS ADMIT American Family Prefers Motor, Car to Observation Platform. Bv United Press KANSAS CITY, Mo., July 9.—The desire of the American family to see the wide vacation places of the West by Motor car in the place of the panorama from the observation platform is cutting into summer tourist revenue, passenger officials of western railroads agree. The summer hegira into mountain, lake and coastal relbrts of the West, date, railroads announce as disappointing. Asked why, officials who have their thumbs and fingers on the nassenger pulses of three great systems serving Colorado, California and the Pacific Northwest, answered: “Good roads and the automobile.” ' In Olden Days Where before the great American father, tourist de luxe, took family, bag and baggage and entrained for his summer playground, waving goodbyes from the rear platform in (the train shed, today he dons the Buster, throws in a camp chair or two, and drives Se open road, they observe. Just how much the gasoline motor has robbed i-ailroad revenues, passenger agents are frank.to admit they do not khow. admit, however, a summep slump so far. Pupils will spend four hours a week In school, for which time they will be paid by their employers at the regular rate of pay, the remainder of the time to be put in “on the jofc^” Labor unions have agreed to accept diplomas of the school, and will receive graduates into full •jtanding in the respective unions.
