MAYOR 10 GET - ZONING APPEAL BOARDMEASURE Duvall Has Opportunity to Control City Plan Commission. Mayor Duvall today had the opportunity to assume as much control of the city plan commission’s functions as he has of the city park board. Duvall will receive an ordinance creating a special aboard of zoning s appeals with power to reverse decision of the plan commission. The ordinance, adopted by city council Tuesday night, allows Mayor Duvall to name three board members, the other two to be plan commission members. However, Councilman Eldward B. Raub, over the strenuous objection of Councilman Walter R. Dorsett, succeeded in obtaining passage of an amendment preventing council members, except the present council representative on the plan commission, from serving on the board. Councilman Scored Ra|ub also sarcastically asserted that “the mayor hasn’t a brother-in-law left to put on this board.” Raub also scored councilmen for dropping the investigation of the city plan commission broached several weeks ago. Councilman O. Ray Albertson, finance committee chairman, and Raub were able to forestall an effort of President Boynton J. Moore to name a hand-picked committee to consider the $125,000 temporary loan requested . by the hoard of health. Council rules provide for reference to the regular finance committee, it was pointed out. However, Councilman Otis E. Bartholomew of the majority said the rules would he amended later to allow Moore to have a free hand. . The maneuver of the majority faction was construed as an attempt of councilmen to take a hand in health board affairs, a procedure that had not been attempted before. Dance Mails Stopped There also is belief that the drive is in line with Duvall’s campaign to controll all boards. Raub attempted to stem the tide of fee-exacting ordinances introduced freely by majority councilmen. Hts effort to reduce from SIOO to $25 a license fee for manufacturers of cement blocks was unsuccessful, but a number of changes suggested by small builders were incorporated In the measure which was adopted. Dance halls and barbecue stands where dancing is permitted were slapped by the majority members through introduction of another feeexacting measure. The ordinance stipulates that in places where food is served the license fee shall be $1 a day. Ordinary dance halls now pay S2OO a year. Marriage Licenses Harry T. Quimby. 25. Puzzle a Day
There was an argument at the Hunt Club, .last night. You see, we had a shooting contest. Each player was giVen nine shots. And while the winner hit the bull's eye, he also hit in every circle. This I considered a very poor score. But the rest pointed out that the nine shots were placed in such a way that they formed ten rows of three shots each. This was possibly true, but when I tried to draw a sketch of the shots I soon discovered that my memory was faulty. Sol wish that anyone who knows how the shots were placed, would draw them for me. I-ast puzzle answer; Mr. Axtell put 57 turkey eggs in his incubator. If he had put in two thirds as many more, there would be 38 more eggs, and twice as many more would be 114 more, and 11 on top of that would make a total Os 163 eggs. This quantity added to the original 57 gives 220 eggs, the quantity that was given in the puzzle.
