Statement by Adair Realty & Trust Company of Atlanta, Georgia, to the Business Interests ot the State of Indiana / % U f -V Certain charges and accusations against the Adair Realty and Trust Company of Atlanta, unsupported by sworn statements or affidavits, have been filed with the Indiana Securities Commission. These purport to originate with the Indiana State Chamber of Commerce. They are wholly without foundation in fact, and arise either from malice or from lack of an intelligent investigation. They do an irreparable injustice to one of the oldest institutions in the South. An unsuccessful attempt was made to obtain a personal interview with Mr. John E. Fredrick, president of the Indiana State Chamber of Commerce. Mr. • / Fredrick was reached by ’phone at Kokomo and stated that the Indiana State Chamber of Commerce, which, so far as the Adair Realty & Trust Company has been 'able to ascertain, is not a financially responsible body, was behind the charges. He declined to assume any responsibility for the charges, . as president of the Indiana State Chamber of Commerce, or any personal responsibility. Up to this time no one of ample financial means to respond in damages has been willing to assume personal responsibility for the act. The Adair Realty & Trust Company wishes to give evidence of its complete good faith in branding the charges filed with the Indiana Securities Commission as ignorant or malicious falsehoods. Pursuant to this desire, it hereby agrees to donate $5,000.00 to the Indianapolis Foundation, if the officers and directors of the Indiana State Chamber of Commerce —some of whom may. be assumed to have sufficient financial resources to make them responsible in damages for the consequences of their act—will assume per- ) sonal responsibility for the allegations contained in the charges filed with the commission—- ' (1) By swearing to them, (2) By executing a disclaimer of any and all exemption from claims for damages by reason of this swearing, pursuant to this challenge, and i ■ . • (3) By filing an original sworn copy of said charges, and said disclaimer, with any national bank in the city of Indianapolis. • • V The Adair Realty & Trust Company does not know and is not concerned as to the motive, whether founded in malice or misguided ignorance, which has inspired the making of these charges. It is very much interested in having the good will and the good opinion of the responsible interests of Indiana.
