MARKET BASKET
NUT AND MUSHROOM LOAF One cup cooked rice, one cup fresh breatl crumbs, one teaspoon salt, l two dashes of pepper, one cup chopped pecans, two pimentos chopped fine, one cup chopped mushrooms, fresh or canned, one tablespoon chopped pargley, one-half teaspoon celery seeds, two eggs. Mix all ingredients, add a little cream to make mixture not oo stiff. Bake in an oiled bread pan for forty minutes. Cool before taking from, pan or it will break down and not slice well. It should be looosened from sides of pan before removing. Be sure to mix ingredients thoroughly and pack firmly in pan before baking. Serve with cream sauce or any other sauce preferred. DLTCH APPLE CAKE Two cups flour, four teaspoons jiaking powder, one-fourth cup sugar, one cup of milk, a pinch of salt, two tablespoons of butter, one egg, vanilla. Mix and sift flour, baking powder, salt and sugar, add the egg well beaten and then milk. Beat thoroughly and spread in a buttered baking pan. Place sliced apples oh top. FRISCO FRUIT SALAD One can white cherries, one can red cherries (these are the California cherries; use fresh ones when In season) one can pineapple, None cupful diced apples, one cup white California grapes, one cupful diced marshmallows, one cup chopped nut meats. Mix with mayonnaise and serve on lettuce leaves. Top with whipped cream and garnish with red cherries. This makes a large amount. Miss Oletha French, R. R. In the morning add the juice from one pint of cherries (fresh or canned) to the tapioca with one pint of water. Add sugar enough to make it very sweet. the grease too much and the potatoes will absorb a lot of grease before they get brown. Mrs. Paul Campbell, Poland, Ind. APPLE CUSTARD PIE One cup hot apple sauce, one heaping cup of sugar, one-half cup of cold water, two tablespoons of flour, two eggs, a pinch of salt. Mix sugar, flour, water, eggs and salt together and beat. Save white of one egg for meringle. Stir the mixture into the hot apple sauce and cook until thick, being careful that it does not burn. When thick, add one teaspoon of lemon extract. Put into a baked crust, cover with meringue of the beaten egg white and one table--spoon of sugar, and brown in oven. Mrs. H. J.
