SHERRY A YANKEE . AND NOT FRENCH, DEATH REVEALS • — . Funeral Arrangements Being Made for Famous Restaurateur. Bv United Press NEW YORK, June 11.—Funeral arrangements were being made today for Louis Sherry, 'famous restaurateur, whose name has become a symbol for all that was best in the way of wining and dining. With his death Wednesday, it became known that despite his French cooking, his French manner, his French home at Mahasset which was a replica at Marie Antoinette’s group of buildings in the grounds of the Petit Trianon at Versailles, he was in reality a "down East” Yankee. Sherry was born and bred a Vermonter, almost a neighbor of Presi dent Coolidge. What it was that attracted this genial New Englander to the business of catering to the appetites of his fellow men, Louis Sherry himself had forgotten long before his death, which followed a year’s iil- v ness. Dramatic Life Something led him as a youth to leave his Vermont home and go to Montreal, where he was general handy man around a Canadian hostelry before he ventured to New York. Sherry washed dishes, worked as a chef and a waiter, was a maitre d'hotel and finally a manager of restaurants before he branched out into
