CALLS EDUCATION CURE FOR EVILS 4 ■■ - % Washington Man Speaks at Cathedral Exercises. . “Education is a cure for the evils of humankind and a means of fulfillment of the mission which Providence has decreed," said the Rev. John J. Burke of Washington, D. C., principal speaker at the Cathedral High School commencement exer- | cises Thursday night in the Knights of Columbus auditorium. “Education today is open to every child in America. The aim of the educational leaders is to expand further the opportunity for education,” the speaker stated. He said the Catholic system of education is based on the principle that education is incomplete unless it includes a share of religious training. Eighty members of the class received diplomas presented by Bishop Joseph Chartrand. SAVES TIN ROOF HILO, Hawaii. —During the recent Mauna Loa eruption, a Hawaiian whose home was in the path of the molten lava rushed to his dwelling and peeled off its tin rots. This verbal wheel is composed of ten words. Eight four-letter words form the spokes, one eight-letter word forms the hub, and another the rim. The spoke words may be read in one of two directions, either from the hub out., or the rim .n. The following definition* are for the spokes only: 1, an image of divinity. 2, granted facts. 3, eagerness. 4, tiny body of land. 5, midday. 6, to relieve. 7, plants. 8, oceans. What are the two words which form the hub and rim. Last puzzle answer: From tho Muirfield golf course to the inn where the American tourists stayed is a distance of 90 miles. The first party going 20 miles an hour must have traveled 30 miles in the 1 Vi-hour head start. The second party at SO miles an hour cut that distance down 10 miles every hour Os travel. So it will take 3 hours for the second party to overtake the first 3x30=90). The first party will travel (3x14 Vi hours in all. (414 x20=90).
