CHICAGO SIRED AS BIG CATHOLIC CONGRESS NEARS Convention-Weary City Is Amazed at Plans to Care for Million Delegates. fill United I'rr. s CHICAGO, June 31.—This city, at the cross roads of the New World, where giant conventions are matters of every day occurrence, finally is to have a gathering of people large enough to arouse the interest of Chicago’s public. Steeped in the lore of national political conventions, “pep" meetings of great sales organizations and the hurrah which accompanies agricultural gatherings, Chicago's 3.000,000 today were watching with enlivened interest the final plans for entertaining the master meeting of ail — the twenty-eighth international Eucharistic Congress, June 20 to No Flaming Buildings The way the clergy goes about having the gathering of a million or more / delegates puzzles Chicago’s convention makers, who never have handled much more than a crowd of 100,000. There at'e no flaming buntings shouting “Welcome," there is no street carnival of signs, and neither is there an influx of convention concessionnaires. Instead there is dignified announcement that one of the greatest meetings of the Catholic church is to be here. Included among the completed plans are: Housing of 1,000.000 people in every available hotel and private room in the city. Creation of hospital facilities at Mundelein. 111., and Soldiers field. This includes retaining of 400 doctors, 1,200 nurses, erection of hospital tents and setting up of more than a score of X-ray machines. MATERNITY WARDS (Incidentally a number of maternity wards are to be established both at Municipal pier and Mundelein to care for the stork should he appear among the pilgrims). Baking of 4,500,000 communion wafers. Retention of 1.000 outside priests to hear, confessions the week preceding the congress. Creation of traffic plans to handle 80,000 motor cars, which will bring delegates from nearby communities. Erection of the world's greatest amplifiers at Soldiers Field to carry words of the masses, sermons and addresses to the hundreds of thousands, who will be unable to crowd into the stadium. Huge Altar Construction of the greatest altar ever made, towering 125 feet in the air. Transformation of convention halls into places of worship. Laying in of food supplies to assure 1.000.000 additional residents and the 3,000,000 permanent residents of table necessities. These are just a few of the items when scanned by Chicago's conven-tion-weary populace make them realize that something different in meetings is about to begin. TWO “FIRE BUGS” SOUGHT Detectives today began a search for two men reported by Fire Chief Jesse Hutsell, as those who have been firing the New Wrecking Company, rear of Washington Ball Park and the Big Four Railroad tracks. The firemen have battled two stubborn blazes at the plant. One fire destroyed an old grain elevator. Hutsell received information that the two men, whose names he knows, were the “fire bugs.” **
