ACK TREND SEEN - IN COLLAR STYLES

Shirts Reacting AgainsJ Loud Colors Lightweight Felt Hats Popular—Cloth ploves Noveity Item.'

By Rader Winget St; los in collars are slowly changing, say local designers of men's wearing apparel. Several r ears ago the style was short points and low bands but liter the pendu-' n.aV*ung back and thes long points and medium height bands of the present time resulted. Slowly the style trend is back-tracking to the low bands and short points, merthants say. Asa reaction against the color wave, men now are selecting plain shades of : orlts and conservative horizontal striped foot wear. The new “blonde” shoes had a hand in change since the loud patterns did not go with the soft, shaded footwear. Men are now buying tan, blue and black to match their shoes. Shirts also are reacting against loud colors and most of the advance showings of shirts brixjg to light shirts with a lighter background, White wltfi wide cross stripes is one popular combination. Felt Hats Popular Hot summer weather has popularized the light weight felt hats with bands of two horizontal stripes of two colors. The shades blend with each other. Straws have the twocolor bands also. Several new Ideas in cravats have been received this week. The oldfashioned Paisley shawl design has been reincarnated in a tie of that shade made in foulard silk. A light weight silk cravat . is shown with two designs, usually a polka dot at the top and checks or stripes at the ends. The solid blue and mauve pastel shades are gaining popularity among the “best dressers,” merchants say. Trip to French Lick Is Club Suggestion The Ho osier Motor Club’s suggestion this week for those who desire to take a week-end motor trip includes a visit to West Baden and French Lick. The route from Indian-, apolis: Leaving the city go south on Meridian St. tp -the 1900 block. Turn right on State ltd. 22 and follow same through Waverly to Martinsville. Take State Rd. 12 from Martinsville to Spencer, Rd. 32 from Spencer to Bloomington, Rd. 22 to Bedford and Paoli and Rd. 5 from Paoli to French Lick. The distance is 13S miles. The road is paved to Martinsville, graveled to Bloomington with pavement and gravel on to French Lick. The only construction under way on this route is a bridge two miles north of Gosport (good temporary bridge provided) and a place where It is necessary to follow the old road across a bridge immediately south of Bedford. A novelty item for motoring and sports is the new light weight cloth and cape skin gltoves. The palms are perforated to allow circulation of air. The gloves can be washed or dry cleaned. One merchant is showing a 1 new 'polka dot hat’ band. The bands come in tifc more conservative colors of blue and tan with dots of white. The two piece underwear suits are "taking” with men as the hotter weather approaches. The shirts a£e made of ribbed swiss and the trunks a,re striped madras and soft materials. The suits can be obtained in plain and colored designs. • Even the one piece “button” and “nobutton” varieties ara_ shown in loud patterns, rather disproving the theory, that men are back to a .conservative manner ot ,dressing. • “No yet, fqr a while,” commented one merchant.
