GERMAN VICTORY ARCH UNDERGOES NEEDEDREPAIRS Brandenburg Gate Scene of Rejoicing and Sorrow by People. Bu Times Special BERLIN, June 4.—The Brandenburg gate, one of Berlin's historic 'landmarks, is undergoing repairs. American tourists, following their Baedekers, have immediately upon their arrival here sought a view of the impressive arch —only to find it hidden by a mass of scaffolding. The Prussian goddess of victory, sitting atop the gate and for nearly a century driving Jier four-horse chariot towards the East, has been rftnoved to a studio for repairs. Hidden by. Scaffold Located at the end of the historic TJnter den Linden, the Brandenburg Gate has been associated with all important phases of modern German history. Napoleon rode through it after his victories over the Prussian armies, 120 years ago. Sixty years later the Prussian army marched through the pillars of the gate, returning triumphant from the Franco-Prussian War.
