HIGHWAYS RESIST TRAFFIC STRAIN, BULLETINREPORT Value of Systematic Maintenance Demonstrated During Speedway. State roads withstood in a most gratifying manner a terrific strain during the several days preceding and following Memorial day when thousands of machines came to Indianapolis to the Speedway races, it was pointed out in the commission traffic bulletin today. Systematic maintenance was never better illustrated than on this occasion when non-rigid types received their most gruelling test of the year. The commission received numerous compliments on the surface conditions making it possible for an unprecendented volume of traffic to move swiftly and surely over the highways to the Capital City. Surface conditions, on routes entering Indianapolis: No. 1 (New Albany. Indianapolis. South Bend. Michigan line)—Paving between Plymouth and Rochester, with separate detours marked for north and south traffic between Rochester and Peru. Detour from two miles north of Edinburg to Franklin account of paving is only fair. No. 3 (Richmond. Indianapolis. Terre Haute)—Account bridge construction,
