BUDGE BITS THAT DRY ORDER; SEES MENACE Condemns Radical Centralization of Government Authority. Bu Time* Special PHILADELPHIA, Pa., June 3. Tta* recent executive order, signed by President Coolidge, granting authority for the deputizing of State, municipal and county officials for the enforcement of national prohibition, was flayed by Albert J. Beveridge, former United States Senator from Indiana, in a speech here Wednesday night in connection with the sesquicentennial celebration. “To make local officials also Federal offlieals, to make county sheriffs and city policemen also agents of the national Government, to make the guardians of State laws and city ordinances also the executives of national statutes —to do all this is, in practical effect, to destroy our political subdivisions, or, at the very least, to subject towns, cities, counties and States, to a national control centralized at Washington,” he declared. Hits Andrews He directed his fire at Lincoln C. Andrews, prohibition enforcement chief, declaring “the former officer of our regulary Army devised this change in the American system and is in charge of the execution of it. He cited the danger of such radical ■ centralization qf power at Washington, declaring it could be exercised to build and run a political machine, national in extent. “Many well meaning people,” he said, "want all Americans to be jammed into legal and administrative strait-jackets made in Washington. This is not nationalism, but autocracy.” Making America He declared that the process of making of a/ people is going on in the United States today more actively than it did before the Revolution. Then, he said, American population was chiefly British. Now it embraces all races. “Our task,” he declared, “is to weld the millions of human beings of different origin and blood into a single people. “To do this requires the spirit of mutual tolerance, sympathy and understanding among ourselves and friendly and helpful relations with all other nations Without connections with any other nation. “It means that unless we are attacked we must keep out of foreign controversies and quarrels. It means that we must go on attending to our own business and not meddle in the affairs of others.” GGG is a Prescription for Colds, Grippe, Flu, Dengue, Bilious Fever and Malaria It kills the germs.
