DARROW HEARD IN SCOPES CASE Climax Reached in Appeal to Supreme Court. Bu I'nitrd Pros NASHVILLE, Tenn., June I.—The climax of the Scopes appeal hearing before the State Supreme Court was expected to be reached today when Clarence Darrow, famous attorney and evolutionist, delivers the closing argument for the defense. Darrow will talk for an hour, thirty minutes longer than was allowed other defense and prosecution attorneys, who Monday contented themselves with reviewing the conviction of John T. Scopes at Dayton, Tenn., last summer and debating the legality of the State's anti-evolution-ary law under which Scopes was convicted of teaching evolution. TO LIQUIDATE COMPANY Affairs of Casualty Firm in Hands of Receiver. With affairs of the Integrity Mutual Casualty Company, a Chicago insurance concern, in the hands of a receiver, immediate steps will he taken toward liquidation, it has been announced. Thomas S. McMurray, Indiana insurance commissioner, recently revoked the company’s license in Indiana. More than 5,000 Mid-Western banks, including several In Indiana, were customers of the concern. The company has accumulated a deficit of nearly $1,000,000, it is said. McMurray was the first to detect the company’s' precarious condition. TWO POCKETS PICKED Men Report Theft of Purses in Speedway Crowd. Two pickpocket reports, the only ones to reach police during the Speedway race, were received late Monday. J. E. Powell, Greenshurg, said he was at the ticket window of the Big Four Railroad station at the Speedway when his purse, which contained S2O, was taken. George W. Murphy, 1527 W. Morris St., was boarding a street car at Illinois and Washington Sts. when he was jostled by three of five men. His purse and sl2 were taken. “BURIAL” HALTED NEW YORK—Fourteen boys, who organized a secret society, had prepared, as part of initiation exercises, for the “burial’’ of two neophytes.
