30 WOMEN WILL ATTEND SESSION American Delegation at. 10th World Congress. Thirty prominent women from various parts of the country will represent the United States at the tenth congress of the International Woman Suffrage Alliance in Paris May 30 to June 6, it was announced today by the American affiliated association, the National League of Women Voters. The official delegation will include twelve members, while alternates and visitors will comprise the remainder of the American representation. Miss Belle Sherwin, president of the national league, who heads the delegation, sailed for France Thursday, and will go direct to Paris for several preliminary committee meetings. Miss- Eleanor Perkins of Evanston, 111., who will act as secretary of the delegation, has been abroad for several weeks. The meeting will be the tenth in the history of the Alliance, since its organization by Mrs. Carrie Chap map Catt twenty-four years ago. The seven-day program covers a wide field of subjects, of interest to the enfranchised and unenfranchised women , but particularly stresses international relations and woman suffrage and its results.

Sister Mary’s Kitchen

Breakfast—Grape fruit sections, cereal, thin cream, omelet with cream sauce, graham muffins, milk, coffee. Luncheon —Baked spaghetti with cheese, stewed tomatoes, toasted muffins, spice cake, milk, tea. Dinner—Casserole of chicken and rice, baked squash, cabbage and pineapple salad, whole wheat rolls, lemon meringue pie, milk, coffee. Split left-over muffins and toast in a very hot oven. Butter and serve hot. These toasted muffins are as delicious with afternoon tea as any “crumpet” or “scone” served in a fashionable tea room. The muffins must be toasted evenly brown and quite crisp and must he generously buttered. Spice cakes are particularly apnealing in cold weather. The following cake is an adequate dessert in Itself. Spice CaJke Volks of three eggs, one whole egg, | one and one-half cups brown sugar, three teaspoons baking powder, two and one-half cups flour, one-half cup butter, one cup sweet milk, one teaspoon cinnamon, onefourth teaspoon salt. Cream butter and beat in sugar. Add eggs'well beaten. Mix and sift flour, baking powder, salt and cinnamon. Add about one-third of the dry ingredients to first mixture. Mix thoroughly and add one-third milk. Continue adding dry ingredients and milk alternately until all is used, turn into an oiled and floured dripping pan and bfy e thirty minutes in a moderate oven. Let cool slightly after removing from the oven and cover with the following frosting. Frosting Whites three eggs, one and onehalf cups brown sugar. The frosting uses the whites of the eggs left from the cake. Roll sugar on molding hoard trt remove lumps. Beat whites of egs on a large platter with a wire whisk until stiff and dry. Beat sugar into whites gradually. Pile on cake and put into a hot oven for eight minutes to puff ami brown the meringue. A pan of cold water placed under the cake will prevent too hard baking on bottom while the meringue is browning.

CONFESSIONS OF A FAT WOMAN

By Idah McGlone Gibson One of the greatest detriments to reducing is one's friends. Os course, they try to be kind, but they urge all sorts of food upon you saying, “Oh, a little of this won’t hurt you. You can eat luncheon or dinner tonight with us and begin again on your regime.” Every time one gives in to that kindly advice it means one has to begin all over again. After I had lost twenty pounds, exercise became a joy. One never knows how many muscles one has let atrophy until one tries to use all of them. Before I get up In the morning I stretch myself. I take hold of the low head board of my bed and then I try to touch the foot board with my toes. After you have done this five or six times you will find yourself covered with perspiration. Then I draw in my abdomen with a long breath. Deep breathing is absolutely essential to strengthening the muscles of the abdomen. While I am still in bed, and, by the way, I sleep on the smallest of pillows for fear of making a double chin, I raise myself straight up to a sitting posture, keeping my legs from the hips down on the bed. I do this without use of my hands. I am now ready for my hot bath. When one is reducing, two hot baths with cold showers afterward daily are not too many, . I cleanse my face and hands with cold cream, not forgetting to rub my elbows carefully with cream. A woman’s elbows are telltales of age. The next time you are at a partjl just count the elbows that are gray and rough. I go down my steps and hack four times a day and often walk the eight blocks between my house and Hollywood Blvd. up and down hill. Learn to walk, and you mothers, who want lovely make them walk to school and back. Both young and old are forgetting how to walk In these days of motor cars. Right here I may as well speak of make-up. Nowadays a woman looks queer whose lips are pale, although

she may use rouge or not, as is most becoming to her. To use make-up successfully, however, one must try all shades of podwer, rouge and lipsticks yntil one gets something that is just right for one’s complexion and age. Otherwise, one Is apt to look like a clown. Recently a woman said to me that she would not use a lipstick for anything. That evening I saw her husband dining with a very pretty woman who took out her vanity mirror and used her lipstick between courses. NEXT —Making a Diet for Yourself. 'GIRL LEADERS SMOKE! Any number of mature European women delegates to the International Girl Scouts Convention admit to reporters that they smoke, much to the shocked alarm of the American delegates. COUNCIL TO ACT ON MARKET JOBS May Recreate Detective Supervisor’s Post. Abolishment of the offices of market master and assistant is the subject of an ordinance to be presented to city oouncil tonight. It will delegate the work of the positions to the secretary of the board of safety. The measure will save the city $3,000, according to Boynton J. Moore, city council president. It is aimed at Earl Garrett, market master, whose downall has been plotted for some time by opposing G. O. P. leaders in the Tenth ward. Council also will consider an ordinance to re-establish the office supervisor of detectives. Tt was abolished when Klan leaders insisted that Michael J. Glenn, who held the office, be retired from political life. There is possibility also of introduction of an ordinance by Moore designating Meridian St. as a street instead of a boulevard. The intention, it is said, is to strike a blow at the city park hoard which con trols boulevards. It is to be a part of the Duvall offensive against the board.
