OFFICERS KEEP BUSY; TAKE 205 OVER WEEK-END Few Blind Tiger Charges— Many Gambling Raids Staged. Police hurried about the city over wevK-f-nd and arested 205 persons, ISI men and twenty-four women, on various charges, records showed today. This was larger than the usdal week-end haul. Many gambling raids were staged. Nine men and five women were slated on blind tiger charges, two women were charged with violating a statute, and thirty men and one women were held on vagrancy charges. Three raids on alleged gambling houses in the Indiana Ave. district were especially noteworthy, because it was in this section that exPatrolman Griff Marcy alleged he received money in return for giving immunity to operators of resorts. Marcy resigned. Raid Single Handed Gapt. Herbert Fletcher said ho was going to furnish more police for West Indianapolis, after making a personal run to Morris and L,ee Sts., Sunday on reports that an intoxiiated policeman was there. He found the officer was not intoxicated, but was a bit tired after attempting to raid a dice game single handed Karlier in the day he had made two arrests for alleged gaming device keeping. , Other gambling raids made: At HO6V-J Fayette St., where J,ieutenant Drinkut said several men leaped from a second story window. Paul Armstrong, 1918 N. Pennsylvania St., said to have injured his leg, was taken to city hospital. Poolroom of Lee At the poolroom of Harry (Goosie) Hee, Negro politician, 525 Indiana Ave., Lee w;is charged with keeping a gambling house and four men with gaming. Many Negroes escaped. At t lie home of Clyde Sevier, Negro, 903 Colton St., Sevier was charged with 1 toping a gambling house, five Nogioes with visiting a gambling house and five with gambling. At tho home of Frank Whalen, Rnfi Miley Ave. Whalen and five others arrested and at 146 N. Illinois St., John Pulos, 39, of that address and three others taken. TWO INCENDIARY FIRES Fireman Helps Fight Blaze at Own Home. Fire officials today investigated the cause late Sunday of two fires said to he of incendiary origin. Sheed of M. Curl, 231 W. Fourteenth St., and garage of A. Johns. 3318 N. Senate Ave., were damaged by fire thought to have been the work of a p.vronianiac. Total damage was *lls. Sparks started a tire causing SI,OOO damage to the home of .1. C. Hardesty, 542 S, Central Court, Sunday. As he was cutting the hair of one of his children a neighbor told Gdward Snyder, 408 10, St. Clair St., city firemen, that, his home was on fire. After taking his children to safety, Snyder helped tight tfie blaze. Damage was estimated at $l,lOO. 60 TO GIVE RECITAL Musical Program W ill Be Presented Jointly at Church. Virgil Hinton Jr., 10-day-old, son of Mrs. Evelyn Hinton, Negro, 920 E. Fifteenth St., was found dead in bed Saturday. The baby had a cold It was said. TRIES TO TAKE LIFE Patrolman Discovers .Man Hanging From Door Sill. Patrolman Seibert Sunday night heard the moans of Frank Razor, 739 N. Ketcham St., and ran to the home. He found Razor with a rope around the neck, hanging from a door sill. Seibert cut the rope. Friends told police recent domestic trouble was the probable cause of the suicide attempt. Razor Was treated and left at his home. MAN, 80, FOOT) HEAD Thomas Duckum, 80, of 320 N. Webster Ave., was found dead today in a small shack in the rear of the home. Bv I'nitcd Press CHICAGO, 111., May 24.—Mrs. Catherine Scott, today was again fighting for the life of her husband— Russell Scott, convicted slayer of Joseph Maurer. Simultaneously with the arrival of Scott in Chicago from the Chester asylum—whore ho has been confined ever since a last minute reprieve and sanity trial saved him from the gallows—Mrs. Scott started the fight she has carried on for four years. This time she is throwing charges of bribe about in order to save Scott from hanging. ‘‘Russell could have escaped from the Chester asylum if he had paid $5,000 bribe to one of the State officials,” Mrs. Scott said. "Cut we didn't have the money—therefore lie is back in the Cook County jail,” the woman said. Scott will be taken before Judge William V. Brothers, acting chief justice of the Criminal Court, Tuesday. A report of an alienists' commission which examined the slayer last week will he heard—a report which brands Scott as sane—and then Judge Brothers will decide whether to set the date for the liaugag or whether to order another jury trial to decide whether Scott is still Insane. >
