NEVER BEEN IN JAIL OR OFFICE, SAYS CANDIDATE Missourian’s Statement Is Without Parallel for Frankness. Hu United Prrs.i MEXICO, Mo., May 21.—A political document without parallel for the candor and frankness has been made public here by M. E. Dunham in announcing his candidacy for the ofiiflee of Callaway county clerk. He addressed the following statement to the voters of his county: "I wish to announce that I have had my shoes half-soled and my corns doctored, and that I will be at your home about noon or supper time between now and Aug. 3, primary day. While I may be regarded by some as an ‘old model,’ I have been recently repaired and thoroughly rebuilt, and am running In high and also running for county clerk. T have never been Jn jail and have never been in office. While I may not be fit for either place, I am willing to take a chance oii the latter. “None of my ancestors came over on the Mayflower, but I think they came just as soon after that as they could raise the price. I discovered America in 1873; I hope to discover the remainder of Callaway County this summer. “Byt, if it falls to my lot to go up Salt River, I assure you I am an experienced navigator of that stream and promise to arrive at my destination still sitting on to}) of the world and still blowing bubbles. Optimistically and hopefully yours.” , Dunham is conducting a “walking” campaign as an accident, followed by a major operation, prevents him from riding a horse or driving a motor oar.
